I guess this is the closest thing to a Vai-Satriani collaboration.

EMG's are probably aftermarket, since the pickups come stock with matching colors. Makes it harder to ID the model without other deetz.

That's awesome. Couldn't see any for sale online. Production stopped in 2015 and they also made 7 and 8 string versions. Big fan of ebony with no inlays.

You don't need to spend a lot on a guitar but I'd pay for a decent setup so it's easy to play. Nothing worse than a guitar that's buzzing or the action is too high when you're still trying to get the basics down. I'd get an entry level audio interface, some speakers, and try one of those Neural DSP apps for amp tones and effects.

As for learning there's a lot of free content out there. I'd start with learning a few easy songs you like so you can at least see the progress you're making before you focus on technique and theory. I started out playing AC/DC and Metallica with a drummer at school which was great because I didn't do any lead/solo stuff for the first year. I just focused on playing riffs and that laid a good foundation.

    Happy NGD dude!

Those Gibraltar II bridges are really comfortable to play.

Like Dominik said, a good set up with new strings etc would be a good idea, especially if its been sat in the store for a while.

This is him around 17 or 18, the clarity and articulation is just off the charts. He hasn't sounded this good in decades.

The clarity loss between Trilogy and Odyssey is so distinct. He used a phaser that entire album to try and hide it imo.

Then he had to drink a case of Heineken every single day in the 90s and became fat and bloated. I miss Marching Out 1985 ******* Yngwie.

Alchemy to me was his last good album. That album has awesome production, really tough neoclassical style, incredibly melodic lyrical hooks and some just insane YJ cliche moments.

One of the most epic zero to hero solo blasts is in this song. It's short, listen to it all, then the solo hits you like a brick.

EoR is powered by unique Nanomolecular Hyperdispersion Technology. Giving him high bioavailability and myocellular saturation.

I heard Marching Out for the 1st time a month ago. Was a truly out of this world experience. His playing used to be on a completely different level

That's cool of you to help out your SIL like that. How did you get started with doing your own builds? Did you have a background in woodworking/electronics beforehand? Making pickups is impressive as well.

I've been playing for two years now and can play some simple metal songs (Sabbath, Ghost, etc.) and make my way through their solos. I'm not very experienced is what I'm trying to say but my advice is to just dive in. I think it's simplistic but just buy a guitar, get it set up like Dom mentioned, and start playing simple riffs that you like. That will give you an idea of how the guitar works, introduce you to simple techniques like hammer-ons/slides, help you develop rhythm and just give you a decent foundation to build from. From there, you can start to learn a few scales and some basic theory if you're keen on doing so. What has worked for me is just learning progressively more difficult stuff over the past two years and developing my skills slowly. If you have the means, an instructor could really help you. Ultimately, I think guitar is like lifting or any other skill in that you don't need the best program, coaching/instruction or anything fancy; all you need to do is start and stick with it for the long haul. I hope this helps.

    Gotta get one of these

and, of course, without this, there's no way you could properly play

Or you could find a nice Squier affinity strat or tele, or entry level Jackson or Ibanez and a 30 watt modeling amp and go to town

Been trying pretty hard over the past few weeks to nail this tappity-tap song:

Any tips for being able to tap fast on time outside of simply ramping up the speed gradually? The section at 2:06 in particular has been trouble because of the chords inserted in the middle of the tapping, I feel like my hands just don't move fast enough lol

Can you tap at that speed using an isolated scale? What's the particular issue, getting the right hand to go from strumming to tapping quickly? The left hand changing chords quickly?

Most people don't know that they should anchor their right hand on the neck (bass strings)/body of the guitar for stability when tapping. This makes it easy to quickly set up a tap. Of course tap with your right hand middle finger so you don't have a pick switch issue. Post a vid of you playing it for more specific advice.

the anchoring thing might be it, I kinda wail my hands when I switch between picking and tapping, so my right hand is off the guitar altogether while I tap. just tried anchoring out for a bit and it does help a lot with control, as well as muting the preceding chords. gonna have to practice a bit different than I have but seems like it'll be worth it. if I still struggle after putting in time tho I can post my playing.

    thanks for the help!

Yeah, you want your right hand anchored because it creates stability and it mutes the bass strings while you're tapping on the high strings. When you're tapping on the bass strings, the right hand is anchored onto the body and you're muting the high strings with your left hand.

If you're tapping on low fret numbers, where there is no body to anchor onto, say the 7th fret with your right hand, then you anchor strictly on the neck's bass strings (with your forearm on the body). If you're tapping on the bass strings on low frets where there is no neck to anchor onto, then you anchor with your right hand pinky on the side on the neck of the treble strings while muting the strings with your left hand.

Sometimes it's just best to learn to tap at the 7th fret on all strings first because the anchoring techniques used there will be the same when you tap at the 17th fret, so it's just best to learn where there's less to anchor onto so it's super easy when you also have the body to also support your hand.

This all depends on if you're an index tapper or one of those weird middle finger tapper people.

Very few people can nail Paul's phrasing, meter etc

Then this other dude getting that Impelliteri action going:

Nope. Index guys should anchor, too, just like Eddie did, but it's not 1974 anymore - middle finger >>>>> than index finger.

I started playing in 1988 and am set in my ways, son. Wasn't debating anchoring or not, just how it's done.
