I was referring to Beato. The amount of criticism that guy gets is stupid. Only in a world of entitlement does it make sense.
I watched his videos when he had a few thousand subscribers. These days the content is more clickbaity but then it has to be because he's competing with thousands of channels copying him. I immediately clicked when I saw interviews with Malmsteen, Mancuso, etc. They're free. If you don't like it, don't click, and block it from your feed.

When I started out the only avenues for learning guitar were getting a music degree (several years and expensive), finding a teacher (expensive), instructional videos (expensive), books with transcriptions (expensive), guitar magazines (not free), and a few books on jazz theory, etc. at the library. That last option was free but you had to put in a lot of work since most of it was for piano or sax.
Beato's series of interviews are a goldmine. When I was sitting at my Kurzweil in the mid 90s obsessed with film score composition the idea of a video — paid or free — with someone like Thomas Newman dissecting and breaking down his scores was pure fantasy. Beato sat there with the man for 90 minutes and did just that. I would have happily paid to watch a video like that any day of the week yet it cost me nothing.
How entitled do you have to be to reach a point in life where you rage against free content?

You forgot one avenue, Your friends, who were most likely showing you the wrong thing...ok honestly a lot showed me the right thing and I am forever grateful, but I picked up a lot of bad habits I have to this day.
It is crazy how much stuff is out there for free to teach you stuff you used to think was impossible.---Chicago Crew---

Took my girl to Nashville for a few days and we went to the Gibson flagship store (she's a guitar player too.... and she wore her Taylor shirt to the Gibson store like a champ haha)
We walk in, completely in awe of all the fine guitars. Employees are all dressed in black, they'll basically white glove a guitar down, tune it, then hand it off for you to test drive.
One dude in black has a white pony tail. I say damn that guy looks like Jimmy Page....
I walk passed him and he turns and says "Oh, excuse me" with a soft spoken British accent.
Holy Fuk... it's Jimmy page! The man himself! He says he'll chat with me in a few minutes after he looks around. He comes into the acoustic room and catches up with us a little later. Shake his hand, tell him it's a honor, I named my daughter after him haha
Says he heard me playing a 12 string, she tells him I played his tune The Rain Song at open mic, he asks me if I did it in the correct tuning because he heard someone try to play it in standard and it was not good haha
What an experience, randomly bump into my number one guitar hero, and of all the people to see on this side of the Atlantic, considering his age and the fact that he's somewhat of a recluse...

never actually tried a godin but they offer a nylon string that looks better than the Tim Henson nylon string (but this is for electric players who want a nylon string)
i imagine if you got an 'authentic' nylon string it's just lol @ godin. dunno why I mentioned Godin but they are flogging this in a guitarist magazine atm
what do you think of Avalon guitars btw?Overthinking, overanalysing separates the body from the mind
