Plenty of Ltd, Ibanez, Charvel, and schecter models that’ll fit the bill. It’s a great time for guitar purchases

They offered an ebony fingerboard in blue sapphire and blue ice frost.

If you like that style of guitar with HH, 22 frets, Floyd, rounded edges, etc., then take a look at the JS1000 built from 1994-2013. They digitally modeled one of Satriani's favorite Strat necks (medium C shape) with a 9.5" radius and 42mm nut. 1994-1997 have a "JS Custom" inlay at the 21st fret. They also made a few mahogany hardtail models: JS6, JS6000, JS1600, and JS2000. Here's my 1994 JS1000 in Black Pearl before I modified it.

    Spoiler!

I have bought a bunch of guitars online without trying them first. It’s all been from places with good return policies and good reputations (Wildwood, Sweetwater, etc).

As long as there’s no obvious mechanical/physical/electronic problems, it becomes a matter of preference and a good setup. Most “duds” are, to me, a good setup away from being great.

Lmaoo I know we all say this but, "I'll be good for a while if I get that."

I found one on kijiji for like 350 so I was strongly debating it. How much better/worse is the 500x from the regular hd500? I found someone selling that for about 200

I think superstrats look weird with rounded edges all over the body, I like the good ol' forearm cut better. Which is why I love the aesthetics of Charvels. I remember a brah posting something a real beauty similar to this a while back:

I like both designs but prefer Ibanez over Charvel. The JS doesn't need a forearm cut because it tapers to a thin beveled edge which runs all the way along the top and is a lot more comfortable than a Strat.

I mentioned it because they made them for around 20 years so there would be a decent number of used ones out there so someone after a 22 fret HH Strat with a Floyd might want to look at those given they're probably around $1K or less used now and in today's money brand new would be $3000 guitars.

I see a lot of new guitars selling for $3K+ that really aren't worth what people are paying for them and that's money that could go toward a nice amp or Axe-FX. For sure it's great if you're happy with them but usually when you've been playing for a while there are certain things that you want to change and when you spend a lot you'll be less likely to make those changes because you don't want to affect resale value. I've said this many times but I'd rather get something more affordable and modify it until it's what I want rather than spending thousands chasing something that doesn't exist.

It depends what sort of specification you prefer. I've never played a Suhr, but most PRS have a 25' scale length and medium jumbo frets. The necks are chunkier than the Wizard necks Ibanez use too for example.

The Mark Holcomb signature PRS has a 25.5' scale length and extra jumbo's, they also ship with coil split-able Seymour Duncans and are brilliant guitars for the money. You would just need it setting up for standard as they ship in Drop C.

Ibanez have models that would fit the bill at every price point, you would just have to choose body shape and pickups etc.

As far as ordering online goes, if you're buying new, go to a reputable store and they will have a flexable returns policy. Email their guitar department and ask one of their expert to pick out and check over the guitar before sending it. That's what I do and never had a problem.

I hope this gets resticked in the future, there is so much invaluable discussion and knowledge that it doesn't deserve to be shoved off page 1. I'll have to start posting more than I usually do then.

There are a ****ton of good second-hand Ibanezes going around for very cheap, I did buy two of them but they were extended range and I couldn't get used to them. For 6-string shredders I alternated between Schecter/LTD/Jackson/EBMM and I kept none of them LOL

Nowadays I'm a lot less gear-obsessed and I'm happy with my main guitars but eventually I want to see if I can find a floating trem keeper. Doubt it'll be an Ibanez tho, I'm trying to find something that's very thin but also not particularly wide. Might have to go Warmoth/custom because it appears to be industry standard to make a guitar neck wider if it has a floating bridge...

As you know finding a neck that agrees with you requires a lot of trial and error. The odds of finding one paired with the body shape you like, the right bridge (e.g. Floyd), pickups that sound and react exactly the way you want, etc. are even more slim unless you go the custom route. Maybe if you already have a big collection you can start swapping parts around until you find what you want.

It took me at least a year to settle on the right pickups.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this baby here. I was looking for the original HT-Metal version, but it's so damn rare I can't find it anymore. I bought one brand new for my friend back in 2014-2015. After that the HT-Metal version became extremely difficult to find brand new. I passed over it 3 times used, and missed my chance.

I stumbled across the HT-Dual, which is the precusror to the HT-Metal. Mint condition, and the seller just raised the price, so I sent him an offer similar to his previous price listing.

These things are getting so rare, that I can't afford to pass over it again. I've been wanting one of these babies for a while. You can use it at the front end or as a pre amp in your FX loop.

EDIT: The ******* declined my offer, but it was the wrong listing. He was asking for $175 plus shipping LOL. I found the correct listing for $135 plus shipping, and buying it now.

$167 is a steal for a pedal that was originally over $200 brand new. FUARK

    Classy move from PRS.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-u...-idUSKBN22V1BE

Maryland’s decision to reopen non-essential businesses came just in time for high-end guitar maker PRS Guitars, which kept 374 workers on its payroll during an eight-week shutdown that has gouged a deep hole in revenues, executives said.

Founder Paul Reed Smith told Reuters the company took on millions of dollars in debt to keep paying workers and ensure production could resume when the lockdown ended.

“It was a pretty powerful gut check about whether it was the right thing to do or not,” he said. “Then I found that some of the people would only get 25, 50 cents on the dollar with unemployment - that was unacceptable to me and the whole team here.”

So the company sprang into action, selling nearly all its existing inventory, applying for and receiving a federal Small Business Administration loan, and working with retailers to help them boost online sales. And it is still negotiating with banks to fill any liquidity gaps.

“We wanted to keep our promise to the employees that we’d given them a job. And so, during this period we paid them while they were off,” he said. “We bet on our employees and we bet on the government reopening in enough time that we could survive.”

PRS will no doubt make it but I wonder how many guitar companies will go bankrupt... most brick-and-mortar retailers will probably be toast, but I also feel like the market was oversatured with too many brands competing at the same price points.

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

So my BlackStar HT-Dual arrived, but I feel like my poverty Marshall MG15CD is holding back its potential for sound.

    I'm looking getting this baby
    Spoiler!

And running it through a Seismic Cab, but I'm not sure what speaker I want to load into it. I plan on purchasing it unloaded.
