Just look at today's data. 3.3 Americans applied for unemployment, yet the DOW is approaching 1000 points up while two curves in the bond market are yielding negative returns. there is a national shutdown, yet stocks are going up.

Today's rise is related to the likelihood that the stimulus bill is going to pass. Also, the market and the economy are not the same thing though they often tend to be correlated. Our system is the worst one imaginable, except everything else we've ever tried.

I think the reported numbers for China are extremely skewed and might be in the hundreds of thousands if not more.

Feudalism (Those chickens all belong to me, keep them well, I'll let you live and maybe let you have one now and then)
Capitalism (I own these chickens and I'll sell you one if you have some money, otherwise sod off, dying of starvation is your problem)
Socialism (Chicken production is owned and managed by the state who is bad at raising chickens, promises you many chickens, delivers few and those are small and not very tasty)
Some mixture of the above.

Our best results have come from mixed economies and we argue a lot about the appropriate mix because it's hard to be happy when you're mixing two or more things that each have their own problems. I'd be interested in something new, but everything I've read is mostly based on hope, mis-understanding of human nature and unicorns. In the mean time we muddle through with what we have.

I agree with most of this, my quibbles are with details and not the essence. The size and complexity of society today is beyond what any population in history has ever faced, and old solutions are narrow at best, totally disastrous at worst. It's one of the things we should be sciencing the hell out of, but we haven't done that either.

It would help, though, if we had a population and leadership that actually believes in science.

I would tend to agree with this statement, however, personally I think you left out his most dire characteristic which is that he is chronic narcissist; the worst trait possible for a leader.

I think many can see both sides. I'm not even talking about right v left here. I distinguish the conservatives from Trump and his supporters. Supramax is pretty spot on with his assessment of many MAGA, IMO. Most simply don't care what he says and does. Mind boggling.

As for the above; I loathe Cuomo, yet, think he's done a pretty good job handling and communicating. Many of his policies can suck a dik but I really do try and see both sides even if I don't agree. Sure, there are many but to say "never" and "always", IMO is too dismissive.

Blew a couple of my employees minds at work the other night as we were discussing various politicians and other famous folks and they know I support Trump, told them I despise Rudy Giuliani, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, etc. At home I voted for a lesbian democratic senator and have in past voted for Bill Clinton, and even voted for john Kerry.

We count really differently. But my post wasn't about making BB.com better. My post was about people spending their time angry about politics and actively hating people who disagree with their worldview. Maybe you haven't noticed that there are people like that.

Yes, there are people like that and yes we do count differently. I am a little less self-righteous, I suppose. But, I think there are other ways to discuss things without causing an online war like there was a few years ago. Good people who were friends became enemies. Political subjects are usually moved to another section. Where we agree is that we shouldn't talk about politics.

I understand that, as I have drifted quite a bit over the span of my life, but my CORE values remain unchanged which do not fit the confines of either party. My point wasn't to impugn the President for changing parties; my point is that his world view, in my opinion, hasn't really changed. It is also my opinion that if he were still wearing his (D) badge, many, if not most of his support on the right would be gone. I'm not saying you are one of them.

I don't play golf, so I have no frame of reference. IIRC, he said something to the tune of, "they let you do it", which translates, in my opinion, to say that it's tried and tested by the speaker of that phrase.
