Ground zero for US My Carona deaths are in a retirement home 1 mile from my house. I'm done for guys, it's just a matter of time. I thought about going over to the quarantined building to see if they would let me lick the outside door handle to get this over with. Waiting around for some old guy in a Chinese restaurant to sneeze on my meal is painfully agonizing...

Now I do believe in benefits of exercise and I rarely get ill (although highly unusually, ill at moment!!). For me it's as much to do with the amount of stress and cr*p in life as anything else. If I've been under a lot of stress and put under more than my share of cr*p for a long time, then I get some odd sickness. In your description above of last time you got sick, sounds like you were under stress too. Stress is the killer!

interesting site, showing the spread of the virus across the globe, even shows the number of reported infections and death rate.

As I pack my bags for Nepal (see chart to get joke), I reiterate that government can only do so much, regardless of whom is in charge. Shutting down the border from incoming Asian flights was one move. Allowing a passenger ship filled with infected people to dock in the US, at whatever location, was another move. Now, it's within our borders. I suppose martial law could be declared, and maybe in the future there will be military, wearing hazmat suits forcing us to stay in our houses while medical personnel wearing the same suits, come door to door to check us for infection.
These are the kinds of options available to government, depending on the severity of the situation and the decision of those in control of us. (And I hate typing that last part, no matter who holds the federal/state power)
On the flip side, so much of how this virus spreads is based upon how we, as private citizens, handle ourselves. Do we wash our hands regularly and thoroughly? Do we avoid touching our faces? Do we avoid shaking hands? Do we avoid unnecessary communal gathrings (that's a tough one as to where the line is drawn)
Do we do these things? I will. I am. My Family will/is. That's about as much as I control, which is as it should be. The rest of us, Socialist or Capitalist, Male or Female, whatever varying degree of skin pigmentation each of us are, are in this together. I am living as though I don't want to give or receive this virus (or the flu, etc.) to/from anyone else.
No panic, just trying to be reasonable and realistic.Envy is ignorance. Imitation is suicide.

This is uncomfortably close to politics, and I'm doing my best not to say this too clumsily as I genuinely don't want to stray into racism (I even regard myself as a chino-phile not phobe) but... here goes...
China, population 1.386 Billion (2017), famous among Europeans for their cultures permitting eating weird animal goods like bats, fried scorpions, etc etc. SARS, Mers, covid19
India, population 1.339 Billion (2017), no culture for eating bats, pangolins, or what I'd see as weird animal food from my European perspective, in fact India is far more restrictive about meat/animals than Europeans. I can't suggest a single recent zoonotic disease from India, can you?
Could it be eating carnivores is bad, bushmeat is bad, general weird stuff is bad? Reminds me of Bushmeat and Ebola, surely this isn't rocket-science?
This was meant as a serious point, please don't jump on this for blatant xxx are bad because they all do xxx, which yes this post has strayed dangerously close to doing that

Unfortunately this virus is so infectious it isn't going to go away in a few weeks so the hoarded food won't last. I saw one
opinion by some expert on the matter that it will probably go into continuous global circulation just like the flu. That tends to
suggest that we are all going to experience it sooner or later. The best we can do is to try and stay as fit and healthy as we
can..

Was talking with a sales clerk yesterday, I was trying to purchase hand sanitizer. She said it's gone as soon as it hits the shelves. It's getting crazy in places

LOL
I remember as a kid I'd come home from fishing or playing missing rear pockets on my jeans. I don't think I had any jeans left with rear pockets, but luckily socks work too..
The hell with using leaves, did that once, only once. And forget using your sandwich wrap back in those days, my sammich was wrapped in wax paper. You don't wanna wipe with that.Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999 - Cannabis Enthusiast since the 1960's

So on the advice of my public health family member I went to the pharmacy to get my 3 month supply and while I was waiting I looked around the place. I saw lysol wipes priced at 7 per container and a large lysol for 15 bucks? Talk about price gouging, wtf?

I have just accepted the fact that I am going to eventually get it. I have planned accordingly and stocked up on the stuff that works for me when I have the flu. I also have enough food and supplies so I can go several weeks without shopping.
I do worry about my parents in their 80s. My mom is in poor health with a pacemaker and likely will not survive if she gets it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #53 ▪█─────█▪

Supposed to be self sufficient for 72 hours in the event of any major disaster. So I went out "foraging" earlier in the week
The only thing I could not find was hand sanitizer, but I have found in the past in the winter it can be hard to find in the smaller travel pocket sizes bathroom sizes. I think its possible to make your own though.
We use masks and disposable gloves at work, no problem getting new ones.
Basically we made sure we had about 2 weeks worth of food. So I just stocked up on canned stuff (normally we dont eat out of cans much) pasta/sugar/rice flour and most importantly coffee and Tea ,TP and the freezer is full. Local food bank will get all of the canned/boxed stuff when this blows over.
Two things I noticed yesterday I had never seen before:
Got a memo from a customer that we are not allowed on site if we have any symptoms or have been to the afflicted countries in the news, or have been in physical contact with anyone who has. They have cancelled all out of town travel or offsite meetings have been cancelled. I think this is the start of this
The military has issued some kind of directive to senior officers...forget the exact wording... that they are supposed to be ready to act (do their job) in the face of any pandemic, I think that means they are telling their members to restrict travel, and be able cancel public activity on a moments notice. Please record my time/reps if I pass out
