Am I going over the top here?

I posted in the equipment forum that I’m planning to get some ATX dumbbells with a custom logo (because, for 80 bucks extra, why not???).

    https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...post1597251461

But I’ve had some back and forths with the wife over the logo. Nothing bad, mind, just.., disagreement. Most guys I talk to seem to love the logo (see below; kg would appear underneath). Most women, not so much. The missus worries that I might grow up and find the logo tiring in a few years.

So I figured I’d ask some other folks living in the mature rep ranges whether they think it’s over the top and I’ll get sick of it... or not.

    Opinions?

And yes, that’s my name. However, if you click through any of the links on my profile and do some really impressive sleuthing you’ll figure out my full name, so... I’ll live with the risk to my privacy.

They are dumbbells. You pick them up, you put them down. No one cares what sticker you put on them. What the hell are you even talking about?

Why? and who else is going to see these things beside you? I would put the 80 bucks towards more equipment.

How many hours a week do you spend with the dumbbells. How many hours a week do you spend listening to your wife. Pick your battles wisely, it's just a logo

I’m tempted to say that the “listening” part changes the equation somewhat. I think I’ll explore some crowdsourced logo design, see if I can come up with something more middle ground here.

Just be glad it's not a tattoo.

Edit: Really, it's not a bad design. Would I spend $80 on it? No. Would I recoil in horror at the sight of it? No.

"Wow, that was some night of drinking" he thought, as he stared at the drip trolley next to him and wondered how he was going to explain the "StairMaster" tattoo above his left buttock to his wife. And what else might have happened that evening..?

Buy your wife one of those vinyl cutting machines. They love that kind of $hit. She can then make you any number of custom made permanent adhesive vinyl stickers. Can also make you logo shirts, wrap your car in vinyl wrap etc etc.

That's like throwing $80 out the window, use that $80 for something more useful or add to more equipment.

Is it the logo design itself or the $80 that's the issue?

If it's the design, I agree. I'd get something a bit different (maybe just your name.)

I wouldn't pay extra for a logo because I'd rather spend the money on other stuff but there are plenty of things that my husband spends his discretionary money on that I wouldn't, so I see it as being similar.

Heh. Far too creative for my wife - her artistic ability is limited to the kitchen (where she’s damned good).

Can’t really say I care much about 80 bucks - that’s a few weeks’ coffees. Not really a concern in my situation, particularly when I’m already blowing about ten grand on various new kit. But thanks for your helpful opinion.

Yeah, most women I talked to didn’t care for the logo, most guys did.

In the end, I settled on something much more mild. Will post pics in a couple months when they arrive.

Exactly the kind of personalization I’d like... but I know that my ability to use even a stencil is poor enough that I’m better off paying someone for it. The end design of the logo is minimalistic but (in my interpretation) powerful, so now I just have to wait a few months while the things are made and shipped.

My wife’s got a decent job, she can spend on herself.

I pumped out my gym, albeit with a somewhat classier logo than this one.
