Best family-ish car for 15-20k, reps

Have a kid on the way and need a second car for my partner. She wants an suv but I would rather a 4 door sedan.

Other car is a 2 seater convert so I need something else.

    Looking bmw 3 series / Audi a4s / Audi Q5, like 2015-2017

But would be open to almost anything that’s not gonna he a headache

Two doors, even an SUV are a nightmare with kids. Look forward to them dinging the car next to you when they swing the door open without thinking about it when they are 4-5.

Just get a sliding door van, Kia Sedona are actually really nice and not terribly expensive.

Bring your carseat with you for any of the 4 door sedans. They don't fit well with the backwards carseat in BMW 3/Lexus IS350 style cars without the front seat cranked into the dash.

Small SUV or Subaru Outback, fuk minivan garbage trucks for one or two kid families.

My partner loves these. I notice Mazda’s always rust around the wheel wells, but I’ve noticed the cx5 has protection in place for that. They def look aesthetic and not gonna break the bank. Thanks

The Sienna is nice plus our Sienna saved all three of my children's lives.

Can't go wrong with it. I rent minivans all the time when I have to take 5 or 6 guys on the road.

Yeah i dunno if the missus is down for mini van life yet, i dont plan to have a horde of kids, just the one. Camry / accord would be ok, but i'm partial to luxury models. I know @ 15-20k i'll likely run into problems in the long run maintaining said lux vehicle though. My other car is a luxury model so i'm aware of the headache lol.

The car seats, shoes, spills will mess up a luxury car.

Every luxury car you named is too small for a child.

Go drive a Sienna. A loaded one is essentially a Lexus.

he's got 1 kid. he doesn't need or want a minivan. a small SUV is the perfect balance choice.

I have a Hyundai Tucson. I have a 16 year old and a 2 year old. 2 year old is rear facing in a Graco 4Ever car seat behind the driver seat. My husband is 6’ and can fit in the driver seat, but slightly too far up. Trunk fits my full size stroller.
It has a great warranty. Love my car! It’s small enough to easily park, but holds what I need it to hold. I also like that it’s higher off the ground so I’m not leaning in and down, bumping my head, to put my child in her car seat.

Are you planning on more kids?
We are currently trying for one more, which would give us two in a car seat. Unfortunately we can’t fit two car seats and a teen, so we will be upgrading to a Santa Fe.

Thanks, will look into hyundais. I feel like they used to kind of suck but they've upped their game / seem to do well in car rankings. Not planning on having anymore kids in the foreseeable future.

A coworker with kids recommended it to me. Pay the extra money for the extended warranty! My car is covered bumper to bumper for ten years!
I also opted for black interior so it doesn’t show any dirt or stains form my munchkins.

My husband has a Honda Civic and our spare car seat, also a Graco 4Ever, barely fits in it. Behind the passenger seat.
Definitely take your big car seat with you when you buy. I made sure both my baby car seat carrier and the big one fit before we signed the deal. Good luck and congratulations on your new baby.

Got a 2019 Honda passport elite for like 40k last year highly recommend it.

Fukking lol at wanting to buy a bimmer or Audi used that is not only a poverty move but also a huge gamble you don't want to be on some trip and your kids screaming in the back and then something minor breaks in your car and you're stuck on the side of the road all night waiting for a tow. Just be smart and get something boring and Japanese.

lmao, well said. You're totally right but i guarantee i go ahead and make a silly decision anyway and then remember this post. But yeah, reliability > all. Used german cars are just asking for trouble. My personal vehicle is always having issues lol

yeah, some form of warranty is key for me. Still need to acquire a car seat, any recommendations on that front? I have most other baby things at this point. I'll peep out the Graco.

Yeah, you're totally right, i need to be concerned about practicality rather than coolness factor. My other car is german, don't need 2.

don't bother getting a used german on that budget, especially for a baby. if you're ok with leasing, then look into an accord, camry, cx5, or crv.
