I feel like disconnecting from the video games media scene is the best thing to do

By that I mean it feels very liberating and enlightening to have nothing to do with gaming media/journalism these days. The whole scene and all the dedicated sites feel like they have been taken over by the worst kind of angry aggressive opinionated nerds and it's been feeling impossible to relate to these places and people unless you suffer from some sort of social disorder.

I mean I was really into some gaming sites for years, but they have gone downhill to the point to where I realized how they no longer have any sort of positive effect on my life. The journalists are so in their own little world these days that I can't ever seem to relate to them which makes the reviews and articles mostly useless, not to mention all the pointless chit and clickbait festering these sites. Once in a blue moon there might be some sort of actually useful announcement, but chances are you will hear about that anyways if you have any interest in it.

I just think by this point it's pretty much impossible to have anything to do with mainstream gaming sites/media anymore if you are a balanced person. If you are a normal person the insanity that rules that scene will simply work against you, and chances are you are hardly going to get informed about anything anyways. It makes it feel like it's almost impossible to be a part of today's gaming scene if you try to be a decent person. Discussions are all a bunch of circle jerks due to like/dislike systems, the overall experience is like there is this monstrous hive mind that controls everything and resisting it only puts a big target on your head.

Good thing if you can just disconnect from all that and it no longer has any power over you. I think communities like this and some independent media is the only good way to stay connected to gaming these days. You can actually be yourself and have your own interests without having to deal with some angry nerds getting their panties in a bunch over it.

I think someone has a serious problem if they let something like video games or the video game industry "have power over" them lmao.

IDGAF what anyone in the game industry thinks. I just play games I like. For fun. Simple as that. If I have better things to do, I certainly don't feel like I should be playing a fuking video game instead.

Yeah well said, I totally agree. I miss that kind of attitude around gaming forums, people used to actually be chill about the hobby. These tryhards are total head cases.

Who are the main stream video game sites anymore? I used to read IGN years ago, that went to complete trash though.

This is actually about finding peace. I speak of enlightenment, the pleasure you can achieve by removing yourself from a bad scene.

Yeah I mean that's the thing, pretty much all the big gaming sites these days are has-been's that have been on a rapid decline for most of the past decade. IGN is a perfect example, it used to be a site ran by gamers who enjoyed video games for gamers who enjoyed video games. Then all the good people left or got fired and they got replaced by political activist types and hardcore nerds who just want act like authoritarians in their chitty little bubble. There's a lot of sites that can fit into this sort of development, if you ever go to metacritic to check out the video game reviews you will probably see most of them there. Pretty much all of them have become complete trash for complete trash by now.

    tips:

disconnect from video games social media scene
play mostly Japanese games like nintendo games, sekiro, devil may cry, re2 etc. Most newer American games are total trash these days with certain exceptions.
If you are going to play online, do not play games where you are forced to play co-op

Hell yeah man you definitely get it! This is pretty much the gist of what I wanted to say, I just got a way more descriptive about my reasons for doing so lol. The social media scene is just incredibly toxic these days, and most big publisher games are total rip-offs these days. The online gaming scene is total chit where you are just asking to be ripped off with zero sense of community. It's like I love video games but disconnecting from the "scene" feels like it's necessary these days.

Sticking to single player games is where it's at these days, and most new games just aren't worth getting into. When it comes to western games I am really finding myself sticking to the classics since everything they are doing is so online focused now a days.

The gaming community has been toxic for as long as I can remember. I remember playing halo 2 back in the day and I ran into asshats but it was rare. You knew there were thousands of them but you werent exposed to them like you are now due to forums and other forms of social media.

Only game I play online is wow. Everything else is offline rpg style single player games.

at one point in time, being able to play games with others over the internet was such a novel activity in itself that majority of people were friendly, even in games that are extremely unforgiving like Counter Strike. Not it is just one of the many forms of mindless entertainment that people consume.

Online gaming was a lot better back then, most games had dedicated servers where you would play against the same group of people. It made it so online games would really have a sense of community. I remember always chatting with people on the counter strike servers in the idle time if I died.

I tend not to take gaming politics very seriously anyways. What's motivated me to move away from gaming is the sheer amount of time wasted.

This is currently the least amount of video games I've ever played in my life. Probably 8-10 hours per week.

Yeah I am totally there with you. I realized how I still checked out gaming stuff regularly simply out of habit while I had idle time and taking a chit or something. I am rapidly losing interest in keeping up with new games because most new games just don't seem to do it for me anymore. I have also been trying to work on being more proactive and getting out more often, and gaming seems to get in the way of that which is stupid considering how unproductive it is. It's a hobby that I feel I should just retire at this point. Like all habits it's hard to break being engaged in it but I have really been shifting away from all this. Now a days I find myself wanting to play some older games that I love most of the time I game anyways.
