It would basically be 5-7 weeks of high intensity football with MUCH higher stakes instead of leisurely spreading out the intensity over the course of 17 games + playoffs.

The NFL would make a lot more money on Brackets & Fantasy Football than they would off Fantasy Football alone.

Would work if the games were a series of 3

    AFC South - 32 wins
    AFC West - 31 wins

    NFC

    NFC West - 38 wins
    NFC North - 34 wins
    NFC South - 32 wins
    NFC East - 24 wins

Conclusion: The Patriots played in the second strongest division in the entire NFL.

This is how the "strongest divisions" are calculated? We don't take into account that the Patriots didn't play a team over .500 until week 9 when they got blown out by the Ravens?

How would you count the strongest divisions?

You can't have every team play the same schedule to have 100% ability to say who is the strongest so the win totals across the division gives you the closest to it. Sure as with most stats there are things that fall through the cracks for instance you can have a division that happens to play the weakest division in their conference that year and the weakest NFC division which obviously helps improve the win totals but end of the day...you play who you play so if the teams in your division have a lot of combined wins that's probably the best way to say that's the toughest division.

Could probably afford to have 2 seasons a year with the elimination bracket - Winter Bowl & Summer Bowl.

Winning would actually matter every single game because it affects your chances of moving forward and having the bracket more than once a year wouldn't leave teams sitting idle and out. It would completely change the whole dynamic of how teams are put together and what positions are prioritized.

It sounds too progressive but think about what kind of society we live in today. Instant gratification, impulsive, it's perfect. Get your wad off during the summer season, then go no fap until the winter season and get your wad off again. Cash in during both seasons, bracket or fantasy. Boom boom boom!

I think "strongest" may be a bad term. Competitive would be a better word I think. The NFC East, AFC South, NFC West, ect are typically very competitive divisions. Some of the teams may not be Tier 1 NFL Teams, but the division titles can often times come down to the last 2 weeks with divisional victories being crucial.

With that said, I still don't understand how one cannot acknowledge that playing in a generally a uncompetitive division, while being a Tier 1 Team, is an advantage. Granted, there have been some outlining years like the Sanchize led Jets, Dolphins in 2008 (maybe 08? I forget) and Bills recently, but that Division has basically been the Patriots for the taking, which is an automatic ticket to the playoffs.

Repeating myself, but I don't discredit the Patriots one bit, they didn't make the divisions, and in the playoffs it's a different ballgame. Pats are greatest NFL Dynasty of all time, and Bill/Brady will go down as the GOAT Coach/QB.

I'm assuming Pats fans get defensive about their division because people try to insinuate they're only doing so good because of the weak division which is clearly false given their record outside of the division.

But it's pretty obvious there is a big advantage in playing in a weak division. I mean sh*t the 49ers were playing for #1 NFC Seed or the #5 seed week 17. Meanwhile the Saints had their division locked up like a month earlier or something like that. Clearly it didn't work out for them but it's nice when you know you've made the playoffs and can play it accordingly and don't need to sweat it out end of the year.

It's going to be an even bigger benefit if this rule change goes through since now only one team in each conference gets the bye week. Say you have your weak division locked up but #1 seed is out of reach well it definitely makes sense to rest your starters and get ready for the playoff run. Definitely a big advantage for a team that has their division locked up versus having it come down to the final few weeks.

    Yep definitely agree.

Another thought - How long will this 1 bye team last? It's probably only a matter of time until they want 2 bye teams again, and then the playoffs go to 8 teams, meaning 50% of the league makes the playoffs. I think the ripple effect of this down the road is concerning.
