Why Do People Buy Shoddy & Unreliable Vehicle Brands

This has nothing to do with people that lease vehicles because it is basically just a glorified rental. But Why Do People Continue to Buy Shoddy & Unreliable Vehicle Brands that do not hold their value, mechanical performance or build quality? It's almost like throwing your money into a fire pit.

It's ok, you can keep driving your late nineties Tercel, we won't judge.

Or at least, we won't make fun of you.

    Actually scratch that too.

What brands are you referring to?

Some (probably most) people just don't know/dont care.....they just want/need a car and "oh, that one looks pretty and shiny and it's in my budget" boom.

Unless you're buying an exotic halo car (P1, LaF, 918, etc etc), your car is going to depreciate. Any car is going to have some sort of failure during it's life as well.

Usually it just comes down to budget and what they want their car to be. Most view a car as an appliance serving just a basic purpose. Others as a status symbol. Hell even enthusiast cars today are owned by guys that don't know how to change their oil.

The same reason people buy shoddy and unreliable everything else. It's not just cars. They shop based on getting the most for their money, or with cars, the most their credit will approve.

I always felt like even a "reliable" car can only go as far as the owner takes care of it

brb never rotate tires, forget to do oil changes, buy the cheapest octane gas when it's an 89 engine, drive around with check engine light on for 3 months, then cry when something goes wrong and blame the manufacturer

Because a lot of people don't care about brands and just want something cheap that will get them from point a to point b.

Every brand has its issues. No matter how great you think a brand is there are thousands who owned that its a think its a POS. Let that sink in.

One poster said Mazda was crap but we owned a CX-9 and was probably our best SUV we've owned. We have it to my mother n law and she drives it daily with no issues. Its 10+ years old.

Reliability has more to do with the owner than the brand of the car. It's like you may have great DNA, but if you don't take care of yourself, you might make it longer than someone with lower tier genetics but you won't live long either.

A vast majority of vehicles on the road are neglected maintenance wise. Not just that, but how you drive them has a lot to do with it. They drive the crap out of them, don't maintenance them, then when it breaks down or turns to crap they blame the manufacturer.

Kinda sorta. I've seen people with brand new cars end up in shops vs cars that seem to be running forever even with owner neglect.

For instance my co-worker has a rav4, so we know it's going to be reliable since it's toyota, the dude doesn't know chit about cars. Doesn't care for them, and has that "if it's not broke don't fix it" attitude, even when i joke with him about doing oil changes etc. It's like a phucking 2009 and the truck doesn't break. He never warms it up, always drives hard, sits there idling every morning, an hour or so before our shift starts etc.

My old supervisor bought a new BMW 330I GT, the sportback looking 3 series. He leased it. A month later, in the shop. No idea why. Gauge cluster took a crap. Got it fixed. A month or so again passes, back in the shop. CEL is on. No idea why. They fixed it. A couple of weeks later, back in the shop, car won't recognize the key FOB, back in the shop. Then i stopped caring for the remaining of the story, then not too long after that, he was let go lol. I wonder if he lemon law'ed the car or just kept on with it for the remaining of the lease.

I honestly have had LESS problems owning american cars as a whole than when i had my japanese cars back in the day.

Every car has it's weaknesses and yes i agree it's about the owner too but i think it's mainly about the car.
Schooling everyone that has to do with automotive one brah at a time. It's tiring but someone gotta do it lol

I have a manual car but auto IS WAY BETTER THESE DAYS. ACCEPT THE FACTS BRAHS! LOL
