What impresses me most about Tyson's career, is that he won two world titles after being locked up for 3+years for a crime he most likely didn't commit.

Popularity has a lot to do with it, when it comes to most fighters in general, but Tyson was legit a great heavyweight. Very skilled, very hard one of a kind puncher. He just wasn't the BEST, is what people get so confused about.

Cuz kept tyson in line, disciplined and focused. he wasnt intimidated or impressed by his mystique. he was his trainer and mentor. when he died, tyson was surrounded by Yes men who allowed him to do drugs and not train before fights. so long as he was making money they didnt give a chit what he did, while his own ego (influenced by cocaine) lead him to believe he was above everyone that was fighting at the time. he admitted in his book he didnt even train for most of the big fights, and it bite him in the ass in retrospect.
If he were to have been around people that saw him as a human being / athlete and not a cash cow he could have ended his career on a much higher note

He lost, I don't care what circumstances led up to those losses.

BRB if Tyson fought Holyfield and Lewis before D'Amato things would have been different.

    Tyson copers know that how?

Holyfield and Lewis are all-time GOAT fighters, but it's unfathomable to consider they were just flat out better than Tyson?

    Again, hardcore coping.
IMO Mike isn't the best heavyweight of his era, but We're also not talking about just some trainer. We're talking about the man that took Mike into his own home and out of an extremely abusive home in Brooklyn and turned him into a world class boxer. He was much more than a trainer to Mike, and much more like a father. After Cus died, and Teddy left Mike literally had nothing left. His entire world collapsed.

We don't really know that because all of those boogeymen came after his prime and jail stint. Mike was a much different fighter at that point physically and mentally. While I truly believe that no version of Mike beats Lennox Lewis, I think he could have given Evander better fights. Mike sadly believed his own hype after linking up with the NOI.

I don't know if I would say it was an "excuse", but if you cant tell the difference between Tyson from early on and then after...I got nothing for you.

Cus generally had a game plan for Tyson to follow...later in Tyson's career, he just went in there to brawl.

I think Tyson didn't lose because he was emotionally distressed from the loss of his trainer. The problem is Tyson was to undisciplined to be the best on his own, he needed the right guy to keep him straight. So Talent wise Tyson was probably the best, and mentally he could be the best if he had someone helping direct his focus.

Oh so let's throw out the actual "will to win" component of fighting when it doesn't suit Tyson?

Like that isn't the name of the game?

Nothing I saw led me to believe that Lewis and Holyfield wouldn't beat Tyson 10/10 times.

Maybe dude beating up on nobody's and washed up GOAT has you fooled.
