Would i like FF7 remake? SRS

    hey folks,

Trying to get an idea if this is a game i would be interested in.

i am a big traditional RPG fan. Love Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Outer Worlds, Witcher 3, Mass Effect so on and so forth.

I never played a JRPG, so based off of my current interest, i wanted to see what your folks opinion on the matter is.

    Thanks

The starkest difference between jrpgs and wrpgs is jrpgs really make the game revolve around interesting or weird mechanics for character progression where as wrpgs focus more on action.

Sometimes they work really really well, like the orginal FFVII's materia system. Other times they are so convoluted you need to bust out a spreadsheet.

It's turn based combat, I like it, but not everyone do.

I got FF7 on the Switch a few months ago since everyone claims it's one of the GOATS but I'm having trouble getting into it due to the combat system.

I'm probably missing something but at least early on it feels really tedious like I'm just mashing through the menus mindlessly until I either win or get killed

The combat system doesn't get good until mid game when youre able to start linking materia and come up with crazy combos.

You've never played a jrpg so the best way to tell is to play the remake of arguably the best jrpg ever made. If you don't like it, then you probably won't like any jrpg ever. The progression system and side quests, and not even mentioning the 10/10 story and music, are two things that really set the original apart from everything else. It's insanely fun and addictive.

I dunno about that. Actually like I said before this will pretty much be the combat engine evolved by FFXV that whole game was like a successful tech demo for the next gen.

so the battle system is gonna be way more dynamic and modern pretty much like in FFXV and thats unlike any game for the most part.

In the original style JRPGs the goodness came from efficiency.

Like you have 2 enemies doing constant damage, do you want to get rid of one faster and split the damage they give in half? or kill both with aoe so they are both gone at equal times. Or finding efficiency with effects and spells and combinations.

hard to explain but you have to practice and think about strategy as you game. Battle systems in JRPGs are strategy mini games.

Where are you at in the game? You really shouldn't be getting killed much until way later on if you venture into places you're not ready for. Getting better materia and making sick linking combos really takes the combat to another level. It's actually not a bad game to follow a guide so you're not missing out on things. There's tons of stuff to explore and hidden things. Some of the best stuff, you gotta jump through some hoops to get.

So you're suggesting the combat is going to be nothing like the original? I haven't gotten that impression from watching videos. Sure it's updated to current times, but I don't think they're abandoning the feel and strategy of the original. I didn't play FFXV because the main characters look stupid as hell. I'm actually a little upset that they're adding a new character to the remake that looks like a FFXV character, but I'm not going to complain too much since everything else looks good.

Never played the original because I was an N64 guy but this game is so universally praised I preordered the deluxe edition of the remake when they first announced it. Can’t wait to play.

OP keep in mind, the full game will not be released. It will be released in "episodes". How many? They haven't said yet. This isn't speculation, this is based on press releases
