    Misc car brahs- thoughts

    Recently picked up a 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited X 4WD, 3.8L 4spd automatic

I've got what sounds like a bad bearing on the left side of the 3.8L, so either the tensioner pulley bearing, power steering pump bearing, OR the belt.

My question is it normal to have a small wobble on the tensioner pulley? I took a video to show it as best as possible, as well as during a cold start to get some of the noise in there.

My plan is to: Switch belt out to a Gates (wait a day, see if it goes away) then switch out the tensioner assembly- BUT maybe even switch out the assembly anyway because of the wobble?

Also getting P0128 (replacing coolant thermostat) and P0113 (air intake sensor) so I'll have a few things to replace.

See if the crank pully is wobbling.

Most likely a belt problem. Replace it and make sure the pullies are clean. A lot of times these car dealers spray the engine down with silicone crap to make the engine all shiny and that gets into the belt and makes them squeak once it dries up and it sounds just like that.

Yes a little movement in the tensioner is normal. Probably slipping due to the contanimation on the belt making it do that.

Sounds like the belt to me, you could spray a bit of brake clean on the belt while its running and see if it stops squealing for a bit.

    UPDATE phaggots:

So the guy who worked on my jeep put the belt on wrong, christ bruh. Went to switch it out as the first course of action and ofcourse I look at the belt diagram and its going the other way on the alternator and idler. Well, thank gawt it wasnt the wrong way on the water pump pulley because that would have destroyed the engine.

Everything cleared up. So just incase, always check the belt first.

How is that even possible with a belt these days? Usually the routing is so specific that it will either be way too loose or won't fit at all if you use the wrong routing.
