Sometimes, when I feel bad, I congratulate myself on completing the most basic of tasks.

Like hanging out my washing. Or cleaning the sink. I allow myself to rest afterwards, and I say to myself - I did one thing that was productive, and that is enough.

Then, after an hour, I'll complete another small basic task.

I find this method really helps when I'm mentally exhausted, to get back on my feet.

It’s a struggle brah. Just keep fighting and doing what you can to keep your head above water. Eventually everything will start getting better and brighter.

Seek help professionally even if you just go a few time’s it will help you dig down to why you feel that way. Also to come up with a plan to get better.

I truly think so many people are depressed now because as humans we shouldn’t be living like this. We have all of our basic needs met and are left with just our thoughts at the end of the day.

VA diagnosed me with Major Depressive Disorder. I am on 2 different types of meds to help me function during the day.
Some days are good, some days are bad, life has been going well lately so I have been pretty cheerful. 2 years ago I was in a dark place and was going to commit suicide, my son was the only thing that kept me here right now. Even through the treatment it was hell on earth waking up every day. I was in a crappy job barely making ends meet, I had to choose which bills to pay so I had extra money for food and child support. I was going through rough spots with my gf now wife.
At the time my only source of happiness was making her happy and when I failed at that. I felt absolutely useless. I felt like I could do nothing right, I was in a 10 ft hole with grease on the sides so I couldnt get out. Every freaking day I had a voice in my head telling me how much of a failure I was and that I needed to go away. I started thinking about and finding peace in ending it all, I was smiling about it. I couldn't function at my job to the point I was let go. Any time something bad happened I would cut myself as punishment for being a failure. This combined with anxiety made the worst situations in my head 10 times worse.

Depression is hell on earth and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I still battle with it to this day, I will just randomly fall into it and gotta find stuff to keep me busy.

If you really need some help I would seek a trained professional and find someone who you can talk to.

Is this still about your GF?

When I went through my first breakup, I was depressed pretty bad. Two days after Christmas my gf at the time broke up with me, and had posted photos with a new guy by New Years (aimed to piss me off), and then started hanging out with her coworker a week later. I was depressed for about 4 months I’d say. I was in my sophomore year of college. I couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe, had a never ending hole feeling in my chest, wasn’t hungry, couldn’t move, was always on the verge of tears, etc. It was brutal and I eventually realized that I was only feeling that way because I was thinking about how much my life sucked and how much I missed her.

It was until my friends started dragging me out to go places when I realized that even if you don’t see it, friends and family all care about you and I eventually started to feel better about myself and could actually function. Once I was back on track I did what any logical person would do and got back with my ex, and dated her for another 2 years before I realized how much of a dumb ass I was.

    Think positive thoughts OP.

For me, focusing on goals keep me moving. Working on getting out of debt and moving out of state soon. My job is crazy stressful right now, and to the point where I sometimes space out or have random negative thoughts about past experiences or things at work. It's a toxic tradie environment, but I try to remind myself that I have the means to change things and work toward a brighter future. I almost cut my debt down to roughly a third of what it was, and realize that I'm getting closer everyday to getting rid of it and being better off for it.

You are probably in a clinical state of depression and should see a doctor. Medications can take up to a month to kick in. Once you are better making sure you get plenty of omega threes and stay active can prevent a relapse.

    Good luck OP.

    I'm with you.

Don't give up though, there's always something out there you can enjoy. Sometimes you just need to enjoy the small things, like a nice coffee, a nice cold beer, a nice slice of pizza.

Try to look in to mindfulness, that chit has helped me a lot and changed me a lot.

Like due to my job, I'm always thinking about a month or two in to the future, I'm never really thinking about this minute. I think that can make depression worse as you stress about things that haven't happened. Living in the moment makes things less daunting or depressing.

If that doesn't work, maybe consider a doctor man.

I've defo had a bout of depression for about a year. I hope I'm about to come out. But it's no joke. It takes you TF out. All my momentum in my career and relationships just went into the toilet.

IDK what to say except it's good to have a counselor who can give you some direction and also to routinely exercise and get a solid sleep schedule and eat a good diet. Even take the meds to get you going again.

I still haven't found a good counsellor but I think once I do I'll be back up to speed.

But anyway depression is no joke.
