    Gym and new tattoo

Probably threads on this. Idk. I just got an upper arm done. More line work than full on piece. Basically an outline of something and then text. It takes up a good portion of my bicep up to my upper arm length wise but there isn’t much to it.

I’m not lifting today, but would it be safe to get back in the gym tomorrow. I’ve had a bigger one much more intricate on my right arm, but I can’t remember if I was lifting then. I did play hockey though.

Thanks for any advice and non tattoo people, relax and save it for another thread.

The gym is a filthy place, bro. you're risking infection - at the very least cover up. ive refrained from gym usually 5 days after I get work done and still keep it covered.

Pick up some antibacterial Dial soap and Saniderm or Tegaderm. Wash it with the soap, let it air dry well, and then cover it with the Saniderm/Tegaderm for around 4 days or so and just leave it. The Sani/Tegaderm protects it from dirt and germs so you can workout without worrying about it at all.

Just take off a day or two. Really don't want to sweat on it or even worse have someone elses sweat on it from the equipment. I just had the rest of my forearm done last friday and it was good by monday.

I'd take a week, srs, although I don't have tattoos, but realize you need to keep them clean.

I saw a guy in the gym like 2 months ago with the clear wrap still on his arm from his tattoo.

you're fine you can lift the day of if you want

once that chits in its in, just don't pick at the scabs or rub it on anything and you're good

lmao @ the suggestions in here you aren't gonna get an infected tattoo from being at the gym the chit you're thinking of where someone's entire arm starts rotting is from a dirty ink and needle. Don't use that arm to plunge any toilets at the gym and you're gonna be ok

I would wait 48 hours minimum, depending on how you heal. Line work won't take as long as the shading/color that I'm assuming you'll get eventually, but I would say 2 days is a safe minimum bet for lines. 3+ if getting shading/color done on an area larger than say a baseball. I've always scheduled any new tats to coincide with rest days so I had 2+ days off the gym after.

Remember you are not just preventing infection, but also your body is working to repair the damage done by the tattoo so forcing it to fight on 2 fronts by damaging muscle tissue is probably a bad idea in and of itself.

I’m not so concerned about getting it infected so much as I am doing arms and compound chest tomorrow. Was wondering about distortion because it is on my arm. I plan on bringing dial antibacterial in my small bag and just every so often cleaning it. The guy who did it said I could Saran it but take the wrap off ASAP and clean it.

I have a hockey game Sunday and I am for sure going to have to wrap it then I think, though it’s only rec so I don’t wear shoulders. I have aquaphor that I just put on it and I’m wearing a loose fitting long sleeve shirt since it’s cold. I have 2 tats already it’s just been years in between.

^i may do the 48. I don’t plan on getting shading. I wanted it a little abstract and simple. I took today off(was a lift day) so I could get it done etc. sorta sucks that right now my job is physical. But I have tomorrow off as well from work.

Thin layer of A&D ointment and go lift your balls out. To be super safe wash it with mild soap when you get home and apply another super thin coat of A&D.

You are perfectly fine, no need to take rest days lol let alone a full week. Just try to keep it covered the next few days so no stringers etc.

It gets tricy when its in a part of the body that can have friction while on the gym, like back or legs etc. Just dont let your bicep touch anything but yourself and you will be fine, honestly its common sense. Dont rub on it with anything.

Also dont overapply cream on it, no need to put half a pound of cream on it every day lol

As long as you're not rubbing it on anything then you shouldn't have to worry. Avoid stuff like preacher curls or something that would be directly messing with it.

I’ve seen some horrible mistakes. I was able to go over it a few times. Spelling was all there. I’m very meticulous with that stuff, had the idea for the tattoo for a while now. Took about 2 years to pull the trigger/get the idea just right.

Finished my left sleeve last month and have the right forearm done, 2 more appointments in Feb and the right should be finished. Waited also, didn't want to go cheap or get something that looked terrible.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
    1/13/16: Massive hernia.

Chirp all you want. Everything about it means a lot to me. Wasn’t impulsive and I really couldn’t be happier. I also don’t really like talking about mine, even IRL as they are pretty personal.

I lifted today my usual routine. I just brought my own antibacterial soap in my gym cinch bag and cleaned it between every different lift in the bathroom and used my own clean towel(just washed) to pat it dry.

So far so good. Didn’t see any oozing or anything and didn’t really rub it on anything.
