For some, simply quitting porn changes their life quite a bit.

It's yin and yang. Ideally someone quits porn AND directly confronts their problems obviously. Both at the same time. So I agree with you. But you are completely disregarding the benefits of not looking at porn.

This is not just about extra time, but having a more healthy brain.

I'm guessing when you took a break from porn you were in a bad relationship at that time (or something else bad in your life), and the negatives of that relationship were more than the benefits of not looking at porn for you. Like I said, porn effects everyone to different extremes. It sounds like it effects you more mildly than 95% of guys. But just because you're an outlier to that extreme doesn't mean you should disregard the benefits that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of guys are talking about from abstaining.

Porn creates changes in the dopamine system and prefrontal cortex.

You have zero real data, are talking about anecdotes you read online and are making up the numbers out of thin air.

Word, and anecdotes are powerful. How is experiential/empirical examples not real data? It is some of the most legitimate data we have given the topic we are speaking about

Yes. Also, it took multiple decades of cigarettes being out before data on it became prevalent.

But this is exactly my point; it's all about how severely you've been affected by it.

And I would hazard to say that the large majority of people don't have a problem with it.

Hundreds of thousands of people seems like a large number, but pales in comparison to the billions of people on the planet.

I'm saying that for most people, that's not going to be the be-all-end-all solution. In fact, it's not substantial enough to do much for somebody who isn't severely affected by it.

But for somebody that IS (and that'd be the minority), it would probably be beneficial.

If any of the following apply:
-You can't get an erection without looking at porn
-You watch porn for an obscene amount of time
-You will spend more than an hour looking for a video
-You cannot function unless you have watched porn
-You believe that porn is a required part of your daily routine
-You obsess about porn, and it colours your relationships

You should immediately stop watching it.

It's the difference between somebody who can drink a beer socially, and somebody who literally cannot make it through the day without getting chitface plastered.

Basically, it's like demonizing alcohol a la prohibition simply because some people don't have the self-control to handle it responsibly.

My point this whole time is that the group that would benefit the most is the small subset of the population with an addiction to porn. Everybody else will likely obtain negligible benefits from not watching porn.

Point heard. I disagree with you though. I believe even people with milder porn habits would experience benefits from abstaining.

Stronger boners, better focus, more energy, etc.

Porn isn't doing you any favors.

Thanks for the dialog though. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

And I am not advocating for banning porn. (Although I do believe banning for under 18 would be extremely wise if possible. I think porn should be regulated like cigarettes or alcohol.)

I am advocating for more awareness about the negatives of porn. The average Joe isn't even aware of how porn can be negatively effecting him, similar to how cigarette smokers used to be.

I also think there should be more regulation in the industry aswell. Too much abuse and ****ed up stuff in the industry.

It's weird in our society but its one addiction or issue that does cause some social issues. Recently (October I think) I made a post about being depressed and lonely. Since then I took some feedback from misc and one thing that was surprisingly a huge change was cutting out porn in general and reducing/limiting fapping.

The reasons I'll admit at first was to just get the testosterone increase, but I notice a lot other changes in my day to day life, how I interact with people and how I interact with women.

Also I have time in the night for a night time routine, getting myself in a position where I am ready for bed. I am more productive and just perform better in most aspects of life.

I'm not saying Porn its self is bad, I think through the years its been generally harmless, but the access and the amount we ingest it is what causes the degeneracy and how bad our searches get.

It is a lot like when I was overweight, I would start with eating a big mac combo, then before I know it I NEED to get 2 mc doubles with it. My Pizza NEEDS more cheese. I NEED to smoke a pack a day over a half pack. It's the escalation always chasing the dopamine reward.

Humans are not made to receive instant gratification, we are made to work for our reward, thats how we evolved. Porn is just one example of how our evolution is now hindering us because of our technological advancement and/or abundance of resources/substances.

    TLDR, the problem is addiction.
