Lost my fkn mind a few months ago and bought a Mustang GT

2018. Performance Pack 1. Premium. 6-speed. Active Exhaust. 12" LCD display, Premium Shaker Sound System, Nav, Magneride(super worth, probably the best option besides the recaros) etc etc fully loaded. Thoughts on how stupid I am? paid 30k with 18k miles. Original owner special ordered the car and was stickered at 53k.

i won't call you stupid for that, i did the same with a challenger a couple years ago, i was just posting about it in the "YOLO" thread

at the same time, i won't deny, 18k miles would make me want to bring it somewhere to check on a few things. tires and brakes mainly.

i also see you are in NY. i am in CT and what a warm winter so far yes? however, be ready for the bad weather, you will not want your prize on the road with all the salt and crap they use. look into winter storage, at least for February.

Same here bro. I've never owned such a bright colored car before. In fact, I wasn't even looking for this car in this color but with the packages it has and the condition that its in as well as the red leather interior it looked super sexy in person. I had to have it. And to be honest there are sooo many american sports cars everywhere that the red does help it look more exotic and different than other Mustangs.

Yeah this winter has been very very easy going thankfully. As far as the brakes and tires go they are in pretty good condition but yes with 18k I probably have another "soft" 15k left on either of these wear items. It's also my second car so it wont see much bad weather at all. I do about 8k a year on my DD so I'll probably do less than 4-5k miles a year on this bad boi.

How do you like the challenger? Any complaints? Not putting on a challenge but I'd love to have a go at a challenger one of these days. Do you have a scat-pack?

mine is the SRT392. i got it a couple years ago; they no longer do that engine/trim anymore. i am probably the last person to be objective about it because i'm a lifelong dodge guy and always wanted it.

i will say vs a mustang it is obviously a whole lot bigger, you feel the size. i knew that going in so not a complain just calling it how it is. the tech in it is solid and i love the vintage look it still has. gorgeous from every angle. attached a photo below.
    SRT392Phantom.jpg

if i have any complaint it's definitely the noise from the brembo brakes. sensitive AF and need regular cleaning otherwise they squeal like it's a freaking school bus. i don't know what it is, maybe mine are a bad set or maybe it's because it's winter time and they're always dirty. it isn't the pads or rotors i've been to a mechanic before i learned about cleaning them.

anyways. cool ride, even though i can't go ford due to my ridiculous homer-ism to chrysler.

Dude your car looks freaking sick. I've always been a Mopar guy myself. I would've gotten the charger scat-pack because of the comfort and size and that amazing engine for 40k, which simple can't be beat. The Challenger is also a much bigger vehicle compared to my Stang and the rear seats are actually functional lol. The reason I went with something smaller like is because I wanted a car that I could take to the circuit and do runs which is what I've always been into( I'm not into drag racing TBH). My stang is just a slightly better car to throw around the track than the Dodge.

As far as the brakes go, yeah mine are squealers too. And I mean they sqeal at almost all speeds especially if they aren't warm. I had a 14' Lancer Evo and that squealed too. It's just due to larger brakes AND more importantly the metallic pads installed on these sports cars. I'd like to check your whip out sometime. If you're close to NY, my friend has a SS Camaro, another has a C7 Grand Sport and another has an upgraded turbo Evo X. We can all hang once the warm weather comes back. We do meets and drives. Occasionally track together too.

Strange. The brakes on my SRT don't make a peep. I would assume the Brembo's on the Challenger are the same as the ones on the Jeep. Maybe not.

Sick looking ride. If you like the car it seems like a solid deal. I just did the same with a truck. Sticker new was $52K, got it for $29K with 15K miles.

Only real negative I see for you is living in NY with a sports car. Maybe you have another car thats better in the winter. If you lived down south that car would make more sense.

You didn't phuck up, except for getting a manual, living in ny lol.

Otherwise that's a good price. A year ago was constantly searching for GT's, (with the 10 speed auto though) that was as close to 30k, i couldn't. But that was a year ago. Now i see them in 29-31k all day. For the 10 speed auto too.

If i didn't already lease my 2020 charger scat pack, i would have defaulted to searching for a GT, or the backup plan was finding a stinger GT.

Those were the 3 cars i was looking at. But i'm happy with the scat pack. The car is amazing. The test drive was incredible.

Nah I have a daily driver so when I drive the Mustang it's actually refreshing.

I was very close to getting a scatpack. For the price it's hard to beat. Did you get a charger or challenger?

I already have a daily driver so it's not too bad at all. But thanks for the compliment. The OG owner definitely got his tendies twisted in depreciation while I reap the benefits.

Oh, then you didn't make any mistake at all. Like i said the 18+ GT with the 10 speed auto was a 2nd option, stinger GT was my 3rd. Then a bunch of "maybe" cars if all 3 couldn't check out.

Stinger GT is actually amazing dude. Don't look at the badge, the power plant, the tech, all the stuff you get (for the same price as a charger scat pack actually), the AWD. It would have been an incredible fun daily.

But the only thing that made it a 3rd option, was the lack of a V8. When i drive my corvette on the weekend, i fall in love over again with the torque and the sound a V8 gives you. As quick as the stinger is, there's no V8. And a rather fake engine sound. Doesn't sound exciting.

I got the charger scat pack. With the dynamics package. You get these cars for it's engine and road presence. I actually like the styling of the mustang better (because it's a 2 door). But the charger has a very aggressive, intimidating look to it. Pair it with the V8 and some power and people will definitely move out the way.

At least that's the feedback i got during my test drive. Or maybe people thought i was an undercover cop. Because i test drove a black charger lol

I have a Race Red PP1 as well. I really like it, and unexpectedly it seems that normal people/women like it as well. I only bought it for the performance and expected people to roll their eyes at the Mustang thing, but it looks different enough from the older models that it garners positive comments.

Not really crazy, I got a pp1 with 10 speed and magneride for 40k new, so you got an ok deal if the car's in good shape.

Magneride is a no brainer with this car so you got a great spec.

Now put a whipple on it.

Occasionally track together too.
    thanks man that's cool.
the pads bug me. i'm looking into some kind of goo/applicant or something to apply. that or i'll just get the off-brand pads that supposedly don't squeal (but aren't as effective)

it's hit and miss if you google brembo squeal there's a ton of homework on it. could also be driving style, i'm real gentle on the brakes because my commute to work is very short. lots of under 30mph driving and soft braking. that isn't always the best way to wear them in and can create uneven seating

The Mustang has come a super long way. I got it because I prefer the looks of it VS a camaro per say. And even though the M3 was being considered I didn't want to deal with the over-priced sale and crazy maintenance. Also I didn't want another turbo car.

Yeah the magneride is a must have imo. I was looking at a PP2 because I wanted the Recaros and magneride but they were asking 38k new for a base PP2. I got a real gem of a deal for this bad boy. As far as the whipple, hell yeah! However I've learned to not upgrade anything on cars that I still have debt for so once I'm done paying it off whipple it is. Also Ford did a great job on these Gen III coyote motors. Fkin 600-700hp with stock internals reliably with a whipple!! You fkn what m8???

Back in 2013 when I bought mine new (well actually July 2012) it was between Grabber Blue & Deep Impact Blue... I was after a base model , no frills what so ever GT... They only had Premiums and Track Packs in Deep Impact Blue... so Grabber it was... I have found people either absolutely love it or hate it.. .no in between

Go out and beat on those brakes. Half the time it will fix the squeeling issue.

I have also heard of people using a file to chamfer the leading edge of the pads to get rid of the noise.

i have heard both of these as well. gas it to 80mph and then immediately brake to get down to like 25mph on the highway. then repeat a couple times.

the file part is common on challenger boards w/ posts about the same issue

i dont get it, unless you cant afford it or something, that seems like a sweet car.

also without looking anything up, 30k seems like a good price for 18k miles for a GT especially tricked out with options.

I dont personally like red but I assume you like it since you bought it so it would be the same as me buying a blue or grey one.

    buyers remorse?
