I think these were my favourite types of games growing up. Games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon (Gameboy/handheld series), Fire Emblem, Xenoblade etc.
Even some lesser known gems like Golden Sun were really great. I think what attracted me to this genre was not so much the actual gameplay but the storytelling aspect of it and the sense of adventure and unpredictability of it all.
Currently playing Radiant Historia (Perfect Chronology) as I heard it was great. The combat is alright and the progression of levelling your character is pretty meh but so far the storyline is 10/10. I really like the time travel and timeline aspect of it where you have to travel between different timelines in order to influence and guide the world and humanity into a desirable outcome. New games with awesome graphics are great and all but man I'm a sucker for a fuking amazing JRPG or similar type game whether or not the grass actually looks like grass or not lol..
Anybody also a fan of this genre, or have any recommendations of similar type JRPGs that they've played and really liked.

I've heard good things about Dragon Quest, haven't heard about Persona will check that out thanks

Yep I've played Golden Sun 1 and 2, to this day it remains one of my top 5 favourite games of all time. Dark Dawn didn't live up to these two classics but was still alright. Wish they would make a Golden Sun 4 but it's been a decade and maybe not enough interest was generated for it.
I hear what you mean, sometimes the themes get repetitive.

persona series and tales series ftw
u missing out hardcore then. persona is one of the only legit series left
i recommend starting with persona 4 golden if possible. or any of them tbh except 1 and 2 are really oldschool and not really aged well
persona 4's ost was gold
i think persona 4 golden is the only jrpg to really hit me on a personal level lol maybe because i was younger but it hit me hardLast edited by 2RDEYE; 01-16-2020 at 10:11 AM.

The Legends of Heroes series is amazing. The story and characters in the first 5 games are 10/10. Estelle and Lloyd are two of my favorite protagonists ever. The 5th game Ao no Kiseki is my favorite jrpg ever. Cold Steel series is good but not as good as Trails in the Sky or the Crossbell games imo.

Yeah I've been getting back into them lately. They seemed to have kinda died out around the PS3 and PS4 generation so I filled that void with WRPGs. Played through Persona 5 with my little bro and enjoyed that, little bro said it's one of his all time favourites. We're playing through Dragon Quest XI now and having a blast, really enjoying this one. One of the few or perhaps only video game genres that haven't been tainted by western cuckery and feminism.
I really hope they keep making good single player JRPGs with modern graphics and stuff. Nothing like sitting down with a good single player JRPG and getting lost in their world.Yellow Fever Crew -- https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=176364181

Just finished the trails of sky series and didnt think they were that good. Not into the modern super anime style ones despite liking most games on your list OP, I just find them too weebish. That being said I'm in the market for a game right now so I'll check out yours.
I'd add Legend of Legaia, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia 1/2, Vandal Hearts 1/2, Xenogears, Shining Force 1/2 Infinite Undiscovery, Suikoden 1/2/5, Breath of fire 2/3/4, Wild arms 2,Tactics Ogre series and Lost Oddysey.

Ignore the dragon slayer/first five games listed on Wikipedia. Those aren’t related to the rest of the games.
So there’s 3 main arcs (Trails in the Sky, two Crossbell games, and Cold Steel). Each arc has its own story but there’s also one large story that connects all 3. There’s an evil organization that’s present in all 3 and it’s plan develops over the three arcs. Characters make appearances in different arcs like some sky characters appear in the Crossbell games and have major roles. Cold steel 3 and 4 also has characters from previous arcs have large roles. Having played through each game twice it does feel like one large game when it’s all over
Trails in the sky games are on steam/vita and the cold steel games are on PS4. Crossbell games have fan translations only available on pc.Mets Packers Knicks UCONN

This was the only Star Ocean game I played. Have good memories of it although I do remember it being a bit too grindy/dungeon crawly. I don't think I ever finished it though cuz after a certain point in the game it became like insanely difficult. Man those were the days, PS2 was a truly legendary era.
Also, I know I mentioned before but I'd recommend Dragon Quest XI if you haven't played it srs. This game is like single-handedly revitalizing my passion for gaming, specifically JRPGs. Played it a good bit this weekend and have been enjoying the phuk out of it. I only just got the last 2 party members but I'm already 40 hours in. The visuals are quality too, especially mirin the water.Yellow Fever Crew -- https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=176364181
