I don't understand how only playing in-conference games would be incredibly different. You can travel from Maryland and New Jersey to Iowa and Nebraska, but not Kansas. Florida could travel to Missouri to play, but couldn't play FSU in state. Seems like most B1G teams would be safer to play Notre Dame and MAC schools than they would be playing at Rutgers.
I'm probably missing something with this idea, so maybe someone can explain it to me. How is traveling to play a team in conference and safer than traveling to play an out of conference team?Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

I think its its because in an event like this, where revenue is hard to come by because people arent going to stadiums, the old schedule agreements are being tossed aside. Big 10 schools are saying to each other "I can play you, can you play me? thats guaranteed revenue, lets do it"

Could it be the same logic as keeping a small circle in this thing? eg. an in conference schedules keeps exposure between 12 cities/towns?
Think if Michigan plays USC and OSU plays Buffalo and then Buffalo plays Army, then you have 6 degrees of separation from every team in the country if there is another outbreak. Those independents are the real super spreaders.

That works, until you take into consideration the fact that USC will still be playing Washington, who will still be playing Arizona, who will still be playing.... Then you'll have all of the independent teams co-mingling with each conference. The degrees of separation would be such that everything is damn near interconnected anyway; if not directly, then they're at least connected with so many other locations that one more isn't going create a significant difference.
My point is so many major cities will be exposed to so many other cities, that it realistically wouldn't make a huge difference in terms of risk if they went to a couple more. Every single school is going to be exposed to 8 or 9 other locations... what's 3 more? And if those 3 more are safe for their conference opponents to travel to, why aren't they safe for OOC teams? Especially if they're already in your region? Ohio State playing Bowling Green seems far safer than OSU going to New Jersey to play Rutgers.
At this rate though, I don't care what they do. Just hoping for a season.Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

So with California schools officially not opening up for the fall semester what's gonna happen with the PAC 12? If they don't play it wouldn't effect the playoff anyway but what about the regular season OOC games they have scheduled?

I agree it probably doesnt mitigate much, but I think half of this **** is about the optics.
But also I think youre slightly missing my point - in-conference limits contacts to 10-12 teams who all play each other every week.
Assuming COVID outbreaks take 2-3 weeks to develop, its basically a 6 week window of teams played that could be affected.
Minnesota plays BYU the ultimate super spreader - week 4 - in and around that game, BYU plays SEC, MW, BIG10 and PAC12 schools. If BYU has an outbreak 4 conferences are dead.
If its only in-conference schedules, then each conference dies one at a time.

Are we going to isolate the players? Can they visit their families? What happens if a few players test positive... do teams have to forfeit games?
There are so many logistical hurdles to jump thru I still can’t see it happening. But knowing how much money is on the line schools will try to find a way.

NFL will figure out a way to make it happen due to the money going to all - players, teams, TV contracts
I hate it... but NCAAF is maybe a 20% chance of happening. SEC will make it happen because it's like Religion.. but even 1 out break and the season is probably shut down.
Hope I'm way wrongJust trying hard to not be a fat sack-o-chit.

Voluntary workouts, way to shift liability NCAA. Plus there's no such thing as a 'voluntary' workout in CFB if you want to play.
The best case for a season is if the COVID just phases itself out or that death rate just continues to appear lower and lower every day. But how does that mesh with the very real death totals like in NY?
The chance of the season being cancelled really sets in when you consider that they already moved the OLYMPICS to next year.
Maybe they should just start fall camp Jan 1 and the new season Feb 1 through May.

If they do end up doing just an in-conference schedule, it would actually be kind of cool if they stuck with a 12 game schedule, and just filled their OOC games with in conference teams. Or better yet since there wouldn't be bowl games, make it a 13 game schedule for the conferences that have 14 teams... Would be cool to see every team in a conference play each other in a single year.

I would hate to be a public person at a time like this. You're better to just say nothing, but even then you get chit. Even if you're heart is in the right place and you completely disagree with what happened, if your response doesn't fit perfectly with what people want you're getting put in line for the guillotine with the rest of em. I guess even not voicing an opinion doesn't work either though... Sydney Crosby was getting chit for not saying anything publicly.

I don’t blame him or anyone for a second for not coming out with a statement. It’s stupid. Public pressure to comment on something only waters down the message. Then people will critique the message when you do give it.
It seems like there may be some cracks in the facade, tho, beyond this. People might realize he’s created a persona of himself and his program that probably isn’t the case. Not wanting kids to speak out as to not hurt the brand, covering up some locker room issues, etc that could hurt him in recruiting if he’s going to continue to recruit the way he does. Or he can just switch it up and go full saban and say Idgaf about you I’m just here to get rings and get you paid.

Yeah, I'm sure a large part of Dabo is a character and not truly him. I'm sure it's the way with a ton of coaches. It's sort of like Urban Meyer when he was parading as some sort of hardcore christian who was such a holy and wonderful man when he was at Florida. Maybe it was just how the media portrayed Urban in the Tebow era, but it just came off as phony. At OSU though it didn't seem to be a major focal point.
