    Plate combination: buy only 10s and 45s (skip 15, 25 and 35)?

What's your opinion on this plate combination? Is there any "downside" on not buying 15, 25 and 35? I can make my 15, 25 and 35s with the change plates. This setup should get me going for a while.

    4 x 45lbs
    2 x 2.5lbs
    2 x 5lbs

I'm assuming your talking bumpers because you say 15lb plates. I'd buy the 45s a pair of 25s and some high quality iron 10s and change plates. I wouldn't spend a ton of money on bumper plate 10s because they always seem to bow.

I actually like 25s and 35s and since most of my weights have been bought as sets from craigslist or facebook I've got a lot. I use them on farmers walk handles and to lower my trap bar down so the high handles aren't so high.

Yes, bumpers. The CAP 10s don't bow.

Personal preference, but I would stick with 45/25/10's as well. I rarely use 5's and never use 2.5's..... but I'm at a stage in life where I'm just maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not pushing to set personal records or anything crazy. If I feel the need to add smaller increments, I can always add some collars to the bar.

I agree with the other guys, with bumpers, 45's and 25's would be my choice, for the smaller denominations iron plates are fine.

I do have a couple of pairs of 5kg bumpers, I use these with a technique bar when teaching the Oly lifts.
