    Post How BIG can Powerlifters get without STEROIDS

    How big can a powerlifter get ? I used the resarch on light weight - middle weight - heavy weight to craft a video on this topic.

    Here is some of the script I used for the video!

    In a study titled "Anthropometric dimensions of male power lifting of varying body masses,." Three groups were selected from powerlifting competitions for analysis. The Lightweight powerlifter is generally around the 68.9 kg plus or minus 7.9kg or 150 to 170 pounds. The middleweight powerlifter is usually around the 87.7 kg range plus or minus 6.9kg or 193 to 210lb. Lastly, the heavyweight powerlifter is generally around the 121.9kg and fluctuates much higher due to the heavyweight plus category. Each weight group represents different optimal builds for most people.

    Guys starting out at the height of 163 cm and near 5 foot 3 will probably lean towards the lightweight body dimensions. As most lightweight type bodies are 163 cm plus or minus 7.2. Between the middleweight and heavyweight, there isn't much difference in height, but there is weight. Middleweight usually grows 174cm and above in the higher or 5 foot 7.

    So now, we have three general figures to start form and see how their bodies usually change when going through years of powerlifting. When powerlifting the goal is to produce as much power with your given biomechanics. One of the critical factors that are not looked at when examining a lifter is their bone mass. Bone mass is a crucial element to allow more room for muscle mass to lay on top of and to accustom their bodies to shear force. Shear force is the compression of the weight on your body, causing small physical cracks your body must heal from. In doing so your bones get wider and denser to fight back against the shear force.

    Were those athletes drug TESTED?
    Are they consistently tested to confirm no drug use? Passing drug test on the day of competition does not mean no drugs have been used...

    Didn't care to look up the video, maybe later...
    Although, it sounds like this defines an 'average' of lifter sizes, rather than the maximal extremes...

    What should we do with this data?

    So Bodybuilders want to be "big", Power lifters want to get "strong". Yes, muscle fibers will increase in size as more cross bridges are formed with correct training. However, most of the huge pump you see in mid rep ranges is just hypertrophy (blood) and Edema and will go away, it is not increase in cross bridges per say.

    Next, it depends on genetics. Are you AA, or TT for Actin-3?
