My sister is up in Simi Valley, and while that’s a nice place and within easy access to great areas like beaches, she likes coming down here to hang out when she’s spending time with her grandson who lives near San Diego. Everything is within an hour drive from us. Balboa Park Museums, Big Bear for the snow, Oceanside beach, like you said the winery’s, great food. And I do like the school districts out here. Plus the new houses out here are more affordable (I use affordable loosely since it’s still So Cal and still expensive lol).

I also randomly wonder why people live in Louisiana.

Lol, seriously though, I've never lived anywhere but SoCal, but LA proper is a downright chithole. However, it is lively as hell and not boring. Every time I used to deliver there, seeing the insane amount of businesses, graffiti that can be considered works of art, buildings stacked on buildings, the hundreds of restaurants from every country under the sun, the downright dirtyness next to the most opulent buildings and cars you'll see...it's kind of cool. Love visiting, place buzzes. Living there tho-fuk that noise.
    Virtue is its own reward.

    Um hello?

Plenty of green where I live. Go south of Anaheim....all green. San Fran north is all green.

Plus right where I live up Interstate 5 (the Grapevine) 30 miles lies the most fertile farming area in the world. Green as far as the eye can see. Where do you think 50% of your produce comes from? And anywhere near there and west lies winery after winery. All green.

You are literally thinking of an area shaped like a triangle between LA, Carlsbad, and Palm Desert and up near the Palmdale area.

That is maybe 1/5th of California?

    And don't forget you could fit 3 N Carolina's in 1 California.

Absolutely. It is a conservative haven. Family oriented. Sports are huge here. You could go 4 different directions from here and find outdoors stuff to do.

I lived in South Florida for 2 years now, and went to LA for thanksgiving. Went downtown, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Clarita etc. Honestly not that impressed. Those multi-million dollar West Hollywood/Beverly Hills houses are what regular houses look like in most decent areas of Soflo.

I liked living in Orange County that was a fun spot. I'm sure it's changed but outside of West Hollywood looks like trash. I was there recently. It's definitely changed since the tech culture. Lol at the film industry moving to the south and everyone moves to LA to try and land gigs.

I did a VIP tour at paramount and apparently they're close to bankruptcy because of it.

Hated SF when I visited because it was WAY to liberal and left for me. I didn't even care about all that. It was just in my face all the time.

As someone who is very conservative. Who grew up in the midwest. Who moved to S Cal 12 years ago and has lived in Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Pasadena, and now Valencia? I would never ever go back to the midwest.

The traffic on the highways is bad I will give you that.

As for the homeless, dirty streets, wacko leftists etc? I very rarely see them. You would literally have to go looking for it. I mean, I see a few in Santa Monica, but they mainly just lay on the grass or near the beach. I have had zero interaction with them.

Same goes for wacko libs. I don't know if I have ever met one tbh. I do know 100s of moderates and conservatives.

The city where I live now, Valenica, is surrounded by mountains about 30 minutes north of LA. Tons of cops live here. Families. Very sports and midwestern oriented. Would never know you were near LA.
So it’s close to other places that are nicer
And you live outside the city cos it’s nicer

By weather everyone here means summer weather.

If you love heat, hate the seasons, love governor newsom passing laws to help irresponsible parents facing homelessness, $2,000K rent, $500,000+ homes, California is for you.

Unless you have money then none of this is a problem.

I lived in the Palm Springs area for about 5 years among the hordes of gays. It was a lot of fun and I made many new friends, but ultimately the self destructive nature of the lefties tanked the economy in 2008 so I bailed. Nice to come back to Tennessee and all the green and normal people.

Doing fun things like this is why I like LA. And the weather. And the scenery (girls).

I have been to many parties and events and gotten to meet stars and people I would never meet elsewhere.

2 years ago Gordon Ramsay had a show called the F Word. Was a live competitive cooking show in Fox with the crowd seated around a kitchen in restaurant type setting while people filmed around you. Then you ate the competitors cooking and judged who you liked best.

Not only did we get moved to the very front table where Gordon filmed a lot 3 feet from us, but we also had a drink with him and 3 other people at the bar area right after.

That doesn't happen in Saginaw MI.

I know exactly what you mean.

Whenever I go to LA it is based around going to see old movies at the different theaters, doing tours and driving around the ritzy areas at night, eating at my favorite places etc..

That Gordon Ramsey story reminds me of how a friend and I snuck onto the set of the Muppet movie while they where shooting a pickup shot at the El Capitan theater on Hollywood Blvd....We both ended up as extras and made the final cut of the film as well as the trailer...I was funny seeing myself on TV several times a day...lol

I visited LA a few years ago. I had a great, memorable time but didnt like the area, I dont think i could live there.

Everyone I met just seemed so fake. very materialistic. Traffic was horrendous. Homeless everywhere. Food prices were outrageous.

First night we were there, we met some young rich guy and his girlfriend, they invited us back to a party in Beverly hills. Kind of scary, it was so deep in the hills, I had no cell service. Bunch of coke and alcohol. I didnt drink anything there in case they roofied/drugged it. I made out with some B-list celebrity who was apparently in the movie La La land that was fairly new at the time. The next night she invited us to a post-grammy party slash fashion show with a bunch of B-list celebrities. Twas pretty cool i recognized a few of them. The next night we went to a party on a mini-yacht in Marina del ray which was pretty cool, kinda cramped.

Can confirm. Only place in California I've been where main streets are lined with American flags year round. That whole Santa Clarita Valencia area though is too damn hot.

The problem with transplants who move to LA is that they always pick the wrong areas. Plenty of great places to live. Why would anyone expect downtown LA to be something when LA isn't that kind of city. And yes the Westside traffic is bad....because are you transplants keep moving to that one area!

I live in Palos Verdes, and just LOL @ people who think Skid Row is the norm of SoCal. If you really want the TV/Movie LA lifestyle, then move to the South Bay or OC beach cities. HBBs everywhere and chill atomoshpere. Don't move to Venice Beach and then whine about "weird culutre", when that's literally want that area is known worldwide for.
