    Caffeine no longer a friend.

Who else as they got older found out that caffeine just doesn't agree with them anymore? I was taking IN-Kaged for a few years as a intra-workout, and at times during or after I would feel like sh*t. Then I would have a coffee in the morning and just feel really off.

So I stopped the in-kaged, no more caffeine while working out and believe it our not I have more energy and feel fantastic! This might sound crazy but caffeine during working out made me feel tired.

So now that cup of coffee in the morning is more enjoyable, I do half decaf and regular as well.

Used to drink 4-5 large cups a day, just gave me a slight buzz. In the past 2 years my metabolism seems to have changed, I feel the effects of coffee as soon as 15 minutes in, and usually they're not good effects. Jittery, slightly spaced out, stomach issues

    No idea why

I like caffeine but I really don't like pre-workouts or intraworkouts, maybe it's all the coloring beta alanine etc I don't like in those. Definitely I agree you can have too much caffeine. At various times I've had to cut back or abstain for a month or two

Currently I drink a small can of sugar free redbull as a pre workout, although as much for the taurine as the caffeine content.

Try drinking matcha tea and eat some strong dark chocolate, it's maybe weird for non tea drinkers at first, very very green and needs occasional stirring (just some matcha powder and hot water, don't add milk or sugar). It has very low caffeine but a lot of a similar chemical instead called theobromine, very like a milder but longer lasting more evened out version of caffeine (found in tea and chocolate - can be fatal to dogs as they lack an enzyme to deal with it, but just fine for humans).

    Enjoy...

When I was still in Italy I would drink 5-6 espresso a day. In the past couple of years, I took it down to a mug in the morning, one after lunch, and one mid afternoon.
But my gastritis is getting really bad and caffeine gives me really bad stomach pains and upset, so now I am down to just a coffee in the morning. I miss the one after lunch, I get so sleepy in the afternoon, but better sleepy than doubled over with stomach cramps.

I associate coffee with things like pastries, and other baked goods. I have a theory that if I eliminated it I would have an easier time staying lean and staying away from that stuff. It would also be nice to be free of having to plan my next caffeine fix. I consume 4-6 good size mugs of dark roast a day, sometimes I am like a heroin addict cruising for a score. Probably does not help with my mild hypertension either.

    Some good ideas there.

I never tried and never will do pre-workouts, just reading the label of what's in there will make my heart twitch.

This sounds odd but I eat blueberries as my pre-workout, seems to work, just enough natural sugar to keep the juices flowing.

OP - it sounds like you were taxing your nervous system with the caffeine and needed a break.

I've had a very long relationship with caffeine dating back to slamming Coca Cola in the morning before school.

I don't drink coffee (unless I'm just bored in the office), I stick to energy drinks and mainly pre-workout drinks in the morning. What I've done is started taking yohimbe in the morning and it lasts me thru the days energy. One of the best things I've found is a pre-workout from Primevil Labs called "MEGA PRE." Its a caffeine free pre-workout supplement. Why it was a good find for me is that if I pull myself off of caffeine for a little while, if I'm still taking the MEGA PRE I do not get the caffeine withdrawal headaches. Then after a week or so of exchanging MEGA PRE, I can ween myself off of that as well with no headaches. Its definitely really important to pull off of caffeine periodically.

I was never a big caffeine person to begin with. I haven't had soda in over 20 years, I have never tried an energy drink. And I drink 1 cup coffee a day, sometimes 2. This IN-Kaged intra powder had 124mg of caffeine, to me that seems a lot. It might be hereditary as well. My mom can't have any caffeine.

I like caffeine and i only have it in coffee. Pre-workout supplements work for some and not for some others. For me, pre-workout supplements are something I could not do for a long period of time. Another reason I don't do pre-workout supps is because caffeine constricts your blood vessels which IMO is not good when exercising at any level. You don't want your heart to work harder than it has to.

I backed down to 1-1.5 cups of coffee in the morning and a steeped/hot green tea most afternoons. It gets me by.

I love coffee in the mornings, but I'm not always sure I "need it" -- I just love the routine of it (and the taste).

I've been drinking coffee daily for about 20 years...quit drinking alcohol, quit smoking, quit eating whatever I want, quit drinking pop. If someone tries to take my coffee away, I may attack.

That said, I have always thought pre-workout drinks loaded with caffeine sound awful. I have not and will not try them. No need IMO.

Totally, the biggest supplement money scam out there. I love old school bodybuilding, none of that stuff ever existed back in the days.

    Scam??? Surely not

    I mean, take this product -- https://uk.bodybuilding.com/store/nutramino/heat.html
This is a high caffeine drink that provides "Functional Energy" ... it says so on the front of the can (Green letters under the HEAT wording)
I bet the energy you get from coffee isn't "functional" is it? See: you have to pay the extra if you want it to be functional, and there's little worse in life than all the non-functional caffeine out there
