    Calf machine help

    Hi all

I’m using a Life Fitness standing calf machine with weights that go up in increments of 20 lb. There are 2 intermediate weights that you can pull down, both of which are labelled as 5 lb.

Am I right in thinking that this is a bad design / doesn’t work?

For example, one of the weights is 150 lb. the weight above it is 170 lb. If I wanted to go up the weights I could go like this:

    150 lb
    155 lb
    160 lb
    170 lb

Why is there no third intermediate weight so I can choose 165 lb?

Has anybody else had this issue?

    Cheers,
    Andy

No this is pretty standard, Micro add on plates are useful for beginners, who may not be able to jump up in larger increments.

Most users have no problem stepping up in 10lb increments, this is particularly true on a calf machine, it's a small muscle group, but relatively strong and generally needs to be pushed hard.

It seems a little nonsensical for them to do it that way, but I wouldn't consider it a big deal. You can order a 5-lb add-on weight to fill the gap if you'd like either from Life Fitness or a generic one (or pair of 2.5s) from Amazon, eBay, etc. A 5-lb adder weight from Amazon is about $20

that is a bit daft of a design lol. Like they acknowledge that u might need to go from 150 to 155. Then from 155 to 160. But then u have to take a leap of faith up to 170 lol

Put the pin through a 5lb plate. That's worked in the past for just about every pin selectorized machine I've ever used.
