Leave a small $1 balance on each card each month.*** Use a small percentage of the available limit is the biggest thing.*** Have ~ 3 different credit cards that you carry the small $1 balance on each month.

So basically request to have your limit raised on all 3 cards to make the credit utilization percentage very small and purchase stuff with them each month but very little.

Likely the only way you'd see an immediate increase like that is by massively reducing an overloaded credit utilization ratio or successfully disputing collections records. But if your score is that low, it's likely being driven down by your payment history. If you have recent bills that have gone over the 30 / 60 / 90 day overdue limits, that chit can take 5-7+ years to clear from your record.

Credit score is a long-term game. Mine was in the mid 500s or low 600s a decade ago and is sitting at 871 right now (Canada goes up to 900), but it took most of the decade to get there. I manage finances for both myself and my woman, and her score is sitting at 887 right now

There's a thing called "tradelines" that you can use to boost your score by a lot in a relatively short amount of time. I haven't done it before and I haven't done much research on it, but just do some research on trade lines.

Realistically, you're not going to see 150 point jump in the short term. Part of your score is based on low long you've had credit with X. That won't change real fast.

The most important thing is to pay bills on time. Raising your credit limit will also help if you are not using too much of it. Getting close to your maximum is not healthy. If your credit card has a 10K limit and you've been on good terms with them and you pay on time, ask them to raise it to 12K. Just have the income to justify it.

My story after going through a divorce.

    -Starting FICO 807

-Cancel two credit cards shared with wife leaving just the mortgage 765

-Pay off house leaving no active credit 684

So I went from great to fair credit just because I don't need any. I did just get a Discover Card and will probably get a Visa and start using them instead of my debit just to build some credit again.

    -Never carry a balance
-Keep credit utilization below 10% = You have a 1000 credit limit, ensure you rarely go above 100 by the time your statement hits (this obviously applies to your credit as a whole)
-Ensure you have credit that is in a good status that is on going = average age of credit is important. If you have your first credit card still open, that's ideal. If you have been paying a phone bill for a long time, that's ideal. The longer your average age of credit, the better.
-I believe diverse credit also helps, but this doesn't mean to go out and go crazy.
-Always, always, always pay on time.

I live in the 800s, and open a number of cards a year without issues.

credit makes no sense and all the bureaus know it. I took my credit lines down from a 50% utilization down below 33% (and from 10k limit to 12500) but because i applied for a 2.5k transfer credit line (12500 total credit limit between 2 cards) my credit score went down 45 points. you cant make this **** up.

    I can relate.

    - Had 801 FICO

    - Pay off a 13 year student loan

    - Score drops to 768

Apparently I should have left a dollar in that student loan forever....
