Cost to repaint a classic car, 1967 Pontiac gto convertible

Any ballpark figures here? The paint is in decent shape as it is, but I really want to get a fresh coat on it and get it done right.

I've heard 5,000-10,000 seems to be the norm for a project like this.

    5k to 10k is accurate.

You're looking at the higher end, and likely more than 10k if you want the paint job done as if it came from the factory.. door jambs, all the nooks and crannies in between the tunk and whatnot.. plus any body work that might need to be done before it gets sprayed

I spent about $15K for my paint, that was for prep, paint, cut and buff. The cost like most things depends on the quality you are after, a 20 footer is going to be a lot less than show paint quality. A buddy of mine spent almost as much as I spent on my whole car on paint but his was done by one of the premier shops in Utah.

10-15 grand easy, the prep work is major key

My brothers a painter and people don't realize the cost of time that goes into prepping. He's doing a guys '65 C10 and damn it looked insane when he painted some of parts. He always says any paint job looks good fresh its how it looks years down the road whats important

Maybe I'm just too cheap, but i could never justify a $15k paint job. Unless it's something like Koenigsegg or Zonda...at which point it wouldn't be an issue.

I don't paint for living, but I have prepped and painted parts/cars and $15k is ridiculous amount of money for some color - in my opinion of course. That's a supercharger/turbo kit for most cars.

Something else to consider, red paint or anything that uses red pigments to get the color (like purple or orange), will be expensive compared to colors that don't use red in the makeup of the color.

Koenigseggs or Zondas dont have the personality or history of a GTO.

Same with the patina look that a lot of people are doing now. Scotchbrite it and clear then be done with it.

Uhg, I can't stand the patina look any more, especially faked patina with clear. If the paint is decent enough, why not get paintless dent repair done in needed areas, fix any knicks in the paint, then prep and clear the existing color.

I can appreciate it on the right car and when it's done correctly, for others it just looks trash. A buddy of mine has a late 50s oval window VW bug, I'm not sure exact year and he did a patina on that one and it looks pretty good. It was the first patina VW ever shot for Hot VWs Magazine.

Not a body guy primarily, but an auto tech with body skills. Prep is a big part, if you can do some of the bodywork, sanding, prepping etc. yourself, you'll save A LOT of the cost.

If you want someone to do everything, expect at least 7k for something that'll look great for years down the road.

There is a chance that your "foundation" is good, and you could just be looking at some sanding and a reshoot. Which can lower the price quite a bit.

8/10k to do it with high quality materials. I've painted a few cars and even small projects can cost 2/3k in materials. A whole car in high quality e-coat, primer, paint, clear will be around 4/5k for materials alone.
