Hey guys, so I just bulked for 4 months, gained a nice amount of muscle (from newbie gains mostly) and I’m ready to start cutting down to a more aesthetic physique. What are some of your guys tips to have a successful cut? I’m known to have a huge appetite, and love food. How can I not feel so hungry and deprived during my cut, And how can I get rid of all the annoying cravings? My measurements are height: 5’7.5, weight:144 lbs body fat(probably somewhere around 16-20%) my overall goal is to get down to somewhere between 10-12 % body fat. In my past cuts, I got sufficient fat intake, and even tried iifym, but nothing really cured my insatiable appetite/hunger and always led me to binge on the weekends (I somehow managed to still cut 2% body fat). I had anorexia in the past, so I’m sure that messed up my bodies ability to maintain a lower body fat. I just want some tips on how I can have a successful cut, and stay consistent with it. I love training, and eating... so cutting is my least favorite.

first things first: based on your post it's not clear if you've bulked before... 4 months is not really enough time to build muscle and warrant a cut. i'm your height and nearly 180 lbs, about to end my bulk soon. you CAN do it but don't expect to get a beach body just yet
second: try to eat satiating foods. for me, it's low cal protein ice cream, beef jerky, tuna, eggs, veggies etc. so basically i'm aiming to eat food with lots of volume but little calories
for example, on a bulk (3000 calories) i could eat 1600 calories from carbs and fill the remaining 1400 with proteins and fats. now, on a cut (2000 calories) i could decide to only eat 600 calories from carbs, still leaving me with 1400 calories to get from proteins and fats. you could also drink lots of water or diet soda... here's an interesting thread about diet soda to curb hunger: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...hp?t=177778941

Not sure if you should cut yet. Post a pic. Too many guys are too quick to start cutting before they put on enough muscle. It’s also common to put on too much fat thinking they’ve added muscle.
If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

Check out my gallery for more pics..(not sure how to post pictures on here, lol) as you can see, I store most of my fat on my lower abdomen and back. My legs are pretty much the same as upper body, however, I have tiny ass calves. My lifts are: bench:175 squat:240 Deadlift:280. Like i said, I’m thinking I’m about 16-20% body fat, but i could be wrong. I’ve just read that In order to build muscle leanly, you should remain in the 10-13% range, so I thought I’d try to cut, and get leaner to get more aesthetic, and then bulk again.

Was eating in a 500 cal surplus gaining 1lb a week(3100 calories). Went from 130-144 lbs in a span of 4 months. Body fat was probably too high from the beginning (started at around 13%), so that’s why I have some extra fluff. I’ve always dreaded the skinny fat look tho, so it’s not like I just gained a bunch of body fat, strength definitely increased. Thanks for the input, definitely going to start cutting now.

*update* I have been cutting for almost 2 weeks now(12 days) on 2000 calories. I don’t really care about macros, I just care about getting 1 gram per lb of body weight on protein, and the rest whatever split between carbs and fat I want. My diet has been 90% clean, with some cereal and ice cream sandwiches, etc in moderation. I have dropped 1 inch off my waist, and .75 inch off my hip. (30-29 inch waist, 31-30.25 inch hip.) I weigh myself once a week, and for some reason the scale said I had gained .2 lbs even though I know I have been eating in a deficit for the past 2 weeks(since I look leaner, and waist size has dropped) which is another reason why I don’t care what the scale has to say. I’m going to keep Cutting until I get to about 11% body fat(pretty sure right now I’m about 14-15%) and then start a LEAN bulk.
