General idea is that anxiety starts in the stomach/second brain and has to do with vagus nerve regulation vs. starting with the brain/racing thoughts.
Good point, i have a lot of stomach issues, really bad bloating & reflux on those days

However who knows if it's the anxiety causing it or the other way around. I'll check out some probiotics

I really been trying to focus on my mental health and my anxiety/overthinking things. Last night was a holiday party for everyone at my workplace and there’s this girl that I work with that I like and I think she likes me back. She always likes my posts on IG. Any way I was playing jenga at the party with some friends and she would like try to interfere with the game whenever it was my turn. I tried talking to her I said something like which piece should I pick next (if you ever played jenga you know what I’m talking about) she tried to find a piece to pick but didn’t find one then just left and went back to her friends. After this my anxiety/overthinking went through the roof and I left the party about 45 minutes after this happened. Everything was fine until that happened I was having a blast at the party and I even told myself before I went don’t get caught up in your head and just have fun. Idk man it really sucks it’s like I get trapped in my mind so much. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

As someone who hasn't always had the best self confidence levels, and someone who has dealt with extreme anxiety issues, I would say the first thing you should do is step back and kind of look at your life from a 3rd person point of view. What are the worst things that could happen to you? Do you worry about embarrassing yourself? Failing? Worried about potential end results of things that haven't even happened yet? Have you ever tripped and fell in public? Chances are if you have, people laughed at you, but also 30 seconds later, those same people were back to worrying about the same sh*t that they were dealing with, and probably 99% of them who were asked how their day went skipped out on mentioning you trip in public.

Everyone has their own worries, insecurities, and actual issues in life that they have to deal with. No matter what you are going through, someone is going through a worse version of that. You are the only person thinking about what you are currently thinking about. No one else out of the 7.5 billion people in the world is thinking about what you're thinking. Chances are no one is even thinking about you right now. Everyone is too zoned in on themselves.

Put a hoodie on and walk around a big city like NYC or Chicago. Chances are unless a person is homeless, no one looks twice at you. They are focused on their own thing whether its a positive or negative. This sounds kind of depressing, but honestly, when all of that clicked for me, there was just a huge freedom about it. That you could do whatever you wanted, approach that girl, go to that interview, pursue that hobby, whatever, and the repercussions from that event would be as minimal as you make it out to be, and the rewards could be sky high. You can really just do what you like doing without any care on anybody's thoughts, and if you are spending your time doing what you like doing, I mean things are simply going to turn around.

I also developed a pretty strong meditation habit a couple of years ago and I'm sure to do that on a near daily basis. Its really just about going into most situations in life without any kind of bias or emotion. Meditation helps with that. Obviously I still have times where I feel depressed, and wonder where my life is going, and meditation helps with that too, as the low never really gets that low, and I'm able to climb myself out of it. Every mental health situation is different, and I honestly can't say that I can relate to those with extreme forms of it. I'm not sure where mine stands in the spectrum of mild to extreme (my anxiety issues in the past had to be extreme), but I feel that most people have cases that are manageable with enough personal effort and/or outside help. Don't ever be afraid to ask for help. Its a strength. Good luck OP.

A book i found alot of practical advise from was Johann Hari's book Lost Connections - i listened to it on Audible during cardio/gym.

It’s tough to get out of when you are in a dark place and feel hopeless. And sometimes **** doesn’t get better for a very long time. Even years. Everybody says the same **** do stuff you enjoy make yourself get up and do things blah blah blah.

When I went through my last rut the only thing I could do was buckle down and hold on. I did the bare minimum such as going to work and doing my job just so my life didn’t fall apart any worse.

The best advice I can give is just hang on and expect that it’s going to suck for a while. Don’t have high hopes of waking up one day and everything is fine it’s going to take a while. But in the end it will get better you just have to be patient and don’t ruin your life while you are waiting to get out of your rut. Don’t turn to drugs alcohol risky sex etc. that will only make you feel like a moron when you get back to normal and you realized you did something stupid while you were depressed.

Why? Psychiatrists/psychologists deal with this chit and worse daily. Taking a medicinal/therapeutic approach will de-mystify alot of your issues and setup plans to address them. Beats wallowing around by yourself, which I've done btw.

I remember just watching a Sapolsky lecture (psych professor from Stanford) one time helped me a ton in understanding my mental state and motivated me to solve it.

Good to hear. I got my soul crushed from sports myself, genuinely got slighted out of a slot on our basketball team and it ruined my motivation. Never recovered from it actually but got into lifting anyways and never looked back.

Tons of therapy, refocusing on priorities, learning to be grateful and practicing it daily, self- improvement. Therapy is key bro. And eventually cutting out drugs and alcohol except on occasion when partying or hanging out. Also cutting out toxic girls

Edit: reconnecting with family too. You got this OP. It just takes time, baby steps, and consistently trying. Like everything else in life

I watched a video few days ago that said 2 out of 5 people in USA are on anti depressants and it stuck w me because i feel thats crazy considering how good our life is compared to majority of the rest of the world.

I am fairly certain that technology cellphones/social media/ internet/ video games is having a huge negative impact on people today. All this technology is so fun that it is isolating people and limiting real life social interactions. Even when people do go out to eat w friends they are on their phone or if they go to a concert phone is out recording. Just watching the nye celebrations on tv it was crazy to see how many people went out for nye only to be on their phone and recording video from their ****ty angles.

Speaking from personal experience i was alot happier and content w life when i was in college constantly surrounded by classmates/friends and working a ****ty $10/hr part time job then i am now where i am working from home making way more money.

or we have time to worry about and think about purpose in life, being depressed, being rich rather than running from loins or dying from starvation or dying from an easily curable illness

Live your life son. And take chances.

In the past 6-7 years I was:

-3 years sober (alcohol was my problem)
    -dated a borderline personality sloot
-became addicted to hard drugs for almost a year
    -found my soulmate
-went to therapy every week for a year
    -got sober again
-had a kid with said soulmate
    -been raising this baby
-whole time I built my business (sole prop service provider) from about 60k/year to 120k/year

There's some overlap between experiences but each one of those things had lead me to become a much more self-aware, happy, and stronger person.

I haven't yet, but I realized a few days ago that I might need to address some things in a conversation with a coworker. The plain issue is I get angry, I flip out, and I've been fired for it or nearly fired for it in every job I've had since I was 20. The incidents are so isolated and rare that I didn't even consider it a problem till it all came together when relating the incidents to my coworker. Not sure where to start with it as it doesn't seem like an anger management problem, but more of a frustration building in a short period of time problem.
    Virtue is its own reward.

-Find something that makes you happy. Could be lifting weights, Jiu jitsu, boxing, drawing, painting pictures etc. And do that everyday and dont listen to people who will make fun over it. No matter what you do there is always gonna be someone with something to say

-Eat good, whole food, low sugar but dont be afraid to go all out every once in a while

-Avoid negative triggers ex. Stupid instagram pages, porn, toxic people

-Identify the pattern. What time of the day are your thoughts the worst and when do you feel the worst? Once youve figured it out infiltrate these thoughts/ feelings with something ex. Intense exercise or BJJ is good for this as the only thing your thinking about is trying not to pass out or trying not to be choked out

-A good morning routine sets you up for a good day and gives you that good productive feeling. Ex. wake up at same time everyday, drink a glass of water, stretch, read 10 pages of a book.

-Therapy is key. CBT will probably be most effective. The psychotherapist will help you change your thinking and behaviours which will result in change of how you feel.

-Set small goals. Ex. Goals for january could be: Read 1 book, (if you have problems going to public places, you could challenge yourself with exposure therapy) go to local shop 5 times this month and next month try 7 times, exercise 10 times etc.

-Always try learn something new wheter its through a book, sport, youtube tutorials.

-Leave your comfort zone. Going to be the biggest challenge but it will help your personal growth huge. Could be something as simple as going to a Yoga or kickboxing class for the first time.

-Exercise. But if you need to take a break, take a break.

-When the thoughts enter, dont try and stop them by using defense mechanisms ex Denial(blocking things from awareness may be too much to handle ex. a smoker wont admit its bad for them) Too much use of defense mechanisms can cause more problems. Let the thoughts come and let them go. Do not feed into them and try rationalize with them.

-Be open minded to everything, always give people the benefit of the doubt

-Choose a philosophical approach to life and apply it ex. Stoicism

-Be nice and friendly to other but more importantly be nice to yourself.

    -Try new food

    -See new places

-Go on walks and enjoy nature

-Reconnect with good friends/family. Also its okay if you dont want to be around your family. Just becuase there family doesnt mean you have to put up with their toxic ****.

    -Reduce phone usage

-Try and avoid alcohol/drugs. If you cant try and limit yourself even if that means having one less drink than you did yesterday, Its a start!

    -Meditate

-Appreciate small and meaningful things over standard basic things
