After being stuck fir some time I am making big gains at age 53. A big change is that I started to really think about geometry and form. I now really focus on no cheating and tension on muscle thru the whole set. Like preacher curls I stead of standing curls. Pull ups instead of lat cable pull downs. I was pretty good on form before, but now I’m super strict. And yup, had to drop amount of weight on everything. But it’s working. Look around your gym and I bet 90% of the guys are using momentum to cheat and lift heavier weights then they should be. I see guys working all kinds of muscles except the one they are focused on.

If the goal is weightlifting exercises, swinging it around and turning it into 'weighted cardio' isn't gonna help much in the long run. I try to count in my head 1 1000 2 1000 up, and the same on the motion down. If i'm not able to do the rep with that slow count and controlled form, that's how I know i'm not ready for the amount of weight i'm using. Only downside to it is the workout does tend to take a bit long to complete, but it's a sacrifice i'm willing to make.
