A far-left atheist blog disagrees with Christianity. Truly shocking.

None of the quotes support what you said either, equally shocking. Every President in America's history has been Christian.

So the nation was not founded on Christianity like the religious right claim. The founders were (mostly) nominally Protestant, but their personal spiritual beliefs often derived from Enlightenment thinking, and were heavily influenced by deism, rationalism etc.

Their views ranged from outright rejection of Christianity and religion, to advocacy of the moral teachings of Jesus but rejection of all supernatural and divine elements of religion (Christian Deism), to being fully practicing and believing Christians.

To suggest that they were all bonafide Bible thumpers is just historical garbage.

Lol. OP doesn't actually believe Trump is a Christian? He is an atheist, just like Obama. Why do people believe things from politicians that have a strong incentive to think that way?

The founding fathers were all born into, raised, molded by and cultured by Christianity dating back almost 2000 years

to say that Christianity had no influence on what they eventually went on to create is just silly

obviously they were smart enough not to create a theocracy though

They were smart enough to reject religious superstition in their own personal beliefs too.

Historians that have looked into this in depth find that Christian deism represented the largest part of the founders beliefs. That basically describes those who advocated the practical moral teachings of Jesus but thought all the divine supernatural bull**** was rightly bull****. Then of course you had dudes like Paine and Allen who outright ridiculed all of religion.

How can you really call yourself a Christian if you more or less reject the entire supernatural aspect of it?

Yeah, and his own daughter went through an entire orthodox jewish conversion. And the orthodox conversion is no simple thing. Like there is zero christianity left in her, she is 100% full fledged jewish.

This just makes no sense. You don't think Jesus was the son of God or had any divinity, you don't think he rose from the dead, you don't believe in the various forms of the afterlife or divine judgement, but you're still a Christian, just because you think not killing people is a good moral precept?

It's crazy how you still hold this view after being annihilated not only by left, but also by the vast majority of right leaning posters. You got shown tons of empirical evidence proving yor thesis to be false.

Then of course you had dudes like Paine and Allen who outright ridiculed all of religion.

How can you really call yourself a Christian if you more or less reject the entire supernatural aspect of it?
Why not? Biblical stories are full of metaphors and symbolism even if you take the supernatural parts literally. Of the most important biblical story there are already 4 versions, which differ slightly from each other and have been written down 2-3 generations after Jesus.
    So yeah why not?

He's actually a big fan of Norman Vincent Peale. So, this isn't surprising.

Unfortunately, people take this all or nothing attitude, where you can't talk about religion unless you're a priest or something. Event then you're ridiculed that you're religious. Some people can't be pleased. Trump isn't a saint or a priest or whatever, but nobody's perfect. And as the saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

He was a deist, so of course he'd say this (and I already knew that, anyway). The implication of what I quoted was not that the founding fathers disliked organized religion (having dealt directly with tyrannical popes, church of England, etc.) but that belief in God itself is somehow a scam, which couldn't be further from the truth.

This is not true, the majority of the founders were not deists. This is dumb propaganda spread by liberals that don’t actually read or know anything about history other than Jefferson’s bible.

The first colonies in America were settled by Puritans who were fleeing religious persecution and who were incredibly devout and would not have accepted blasphemous notions about Jesus being just a wise dude. They literally executed a Quaker woman who wouldn’t stop going into there territory and proselytizing their version of the faith.

This should be obvious to anyone who has studied American history because several of the states had blasphemy laws. The last of them was not repealed until well into the 20th century, by the way.
