Gonna Buy A Motorcycle. Any advice?

Bike theft is VERY high where I live (London) so I don't intend to get an expensive bike. I'm getting the cheapest (yet respectable) bike possible

Any advice? What's the general mileage I should go for for example?

They're working on some systems but it's pretty cutting edge/high end stuff. I'm sure it will eventually trickle down and they'll come up with a way the average Joe can listen to music while riding

Buy something reliable. Don’t forget to buy good gear! Helmet, jacket with built in armor, and gloves. Try to keep the dirty side down. Really good insurance should you crash or your bike is stolen. Stay safe Op.

If someone wants your bike aint nothing you can do about it besides watching it 24/7 with a sniper.
some big ass chain , disc lock and a cover will help discourage him abit and try to find an easier target , you can even invest in a gps device on him to track him incase.
My moto is get something relatively cheap and old so that you wouldnt worry about theft so much ride safe brah

Exactly, I'm gonna get as much protection as I can but I'm not spending more than $3000, honestly the bike theft in London is so common it's unreal. I'm looking at bikes from the early 2000s

Looks for bikes that have around 10k miles on them. Bikes get rougher treatment then cars and simply do not last as long.

I never pay more that $3500 for mine and I ride every day. At that price you can get a decent bike that will last you for years. Obviously the thing to look for is if it is all scraped up because it has been dropped a bunch of times. If you ride, its going to happen but not to excess.

Looks for oil leaks and leaking seals and such because that stuff can be expensive as well as bald tires because they are expensive too. If you buy a bike with 2 bald tires right out of the box you are looking at a couple hundred just to get them replaced. They are not like car tires.

Lastly, take a good look at the guy selling it. Is he a bike guy who knows his way around a tool box? If he is that is a good sign he has done the maint required. These things need TLC. The owner can make or break the bike.

My two best purchases were from an old rich guy who was just too small for th bike. Of course he babied it the whole time he owned it. The next was a guy who was a gnarly looking biker who knew everything about them.

They are not like car tires.

agree on this. bikes get rougher treatment for sure..all those kunts revving at traffic stops, redlining, doing donuts, wheelies...all take a toll on bikes components.

look for a guy who sold bike because of his wife or kids or doesnt look like a punk...those guys ride very slowly and maintain their bike.

also look for all factory parts..not many mod parts...they can cause electronic issues.

do invest in a good leather jacket..leather doesnt tear while your body is being dragged down the street....so it will prevent injuries..and should have armor inserts that take impact.

I'm from London and if you wanna get into bikes I can show you around and introduce you to a lot of other bikers and show you the spots.

Have you got a CBT or license yet?

The thrill of the ride is not worth the danger.

a $1000 is no less harder to steal than a $100,000 motorcycle. I can lift my 460 lb zx6r gear locked by myself and load it into a van...
That's what we do in this ****, brah.
