Joel Osteen is the biggest heretic of his generation. It's so bad, you can instantly judge any supposed pastor as useless if they have even a passing relationship with him or Lakewood Church. Dude is going to have more stuff to answer for when he dies than most people on the planet.

So is this your first exposure to Protestanism? Ever heard of the "Protestant work ethic" that the country was founded on, and where people competed to accumulate wealth as a means of reflecting God's grace?
Not making a value judgment on this form of gospel only that, it's common, if not the particular identifying feature of Christianity as found throughout American history.

Preacher's a potato.
"'Mary and Joseph took a Cadillac to get to Bethlehem because the finest transportation of their day was a donkey,' says Anderson. 'Poor people ate their donkey. Only the wealthy used it as transportation.'"
1) Poor people can't afford to eat donkeys, they need them alive to perform labor like hauling their pregnant wife eighty miles. Being able to slaughter an animal for meat is historically the domain of the wealthy. That's why there's an eggplant version of every Sicilian dish: it was a meat substitute for peasants who could never dream of having an animal to eat. That's also why, as I mentioned earlier, Leviticus exempts poor Jews from sacrificing lambs, which they would desperately need to keep alive, and allows them to offer two pigeons instead, which is exactly what Joseph does in Luke 2:24 because he's poor as fukk, brah.
2) Nothing in scripture supports Joseph and Mary riding an animal to Bethlehem at all. Preacher may as well be claiming she rode Drogon into Bethlehem. That interpretation is equally supported by the Bible.
"Protestant work ethic" is much older than prosperity gospel and has roots in reform churches of Scotland and the Netherlands. It doesn't promise lavish wealth and a life of leisure, and in fact encourages diligence, austerity, and frugality. The image of Abraham Lincoln growing up in a log cabin and splitting wood to earn a living is a textbook manifestation. Knowing struggle but being responsible and persevering is taken as evidence of virtue.
American Prosperity Gospel does build on that, but runs away with it in a different direction, and suggests that if somebody has the means to kick back in the sun in a mansion, it must be because God rewarded them for their faith. Analyzing the means is unnecessary, because a just God would not have let them prosper.Last edited by ANumber1; 12-06-2019 at 08:40 AM.

This. Joel Olsten has never been christian and has never been a pastor. Actual Christians know this. 99% of the preachers who have these mega churches and are on TV are scam artists.
Outsiders looking in always look to him as an example of why Christianity is so bad but hes Just a business man using God to fund his private jet.
Prosperity Gospel is a lie. God couldnt care less if youre rich or poor in this life You dont come to God for that. You come to him for eternal life.

Verse 1]
You have to fix the mind before you can bestow the blessing
Because until they get their mind right
Everything you invest in them is going to leak out
Of the crevices of a mind that refuses to change
Look at your neighbor and ask them
"Do you have a mind to change?"
Wait for an answer
If they said no, drag them to the altar
Tell them they've got till midnight to get that fixed
They've got till midnight to dump out all jealousy
All pettiness, all unforgiveness, all strife, all malice, all confusion
All blaming other people for your mistakes
You've got till midnight to get rid of every poison
That's hindering you, every inflexibility that's stopping you
From what God is about to pour into your life
War be onto you if you go into another year and
Waste another year with the old mentality
While somebody's in the hospital begging God
For the opportunity that you have right now
You better step into this moment
[Verse 2]
Put your hand on your head and say, "Give me a new mind"
Give me a new mind means give me a new perspective
Give me a new perspective
Give me a new way of looking at my situation
Give me a new way of looking at my circumstances
Get my mind ready for this year
Because when I get this year there's gonna be blessings
There's gonna be miracles, there's gonna to be opportunities
Oh, yes, it's gonna be some struggles
It's gonna be some challenges
It's gonna be some tests
But even the struggles are an opportunity for me to show off
The victory if my mind can handle the change
[Pre-Chorus]
Do you have the mindset to be blessed?
You have to decide to be blessed
You have to decide, "You know what, this is a day
That the Lord has made, I will rejoice
And be glad that I will rejoice"
Let the past go and step on into the future
Everything that's inflexible and everything that's not ready Everything that's backwards and everything that's negative and Everything that's condescending and everything that's carnal and Everything that's holding me back
I refuse to take it over into another year and waste another
New year with an old mind where the devil is alive
[Chorus]
I will rejoice
I will rejoice
[Verse 3]
Woah, Dorothy, I wanna tell you
You could've been home a long time ago
As soon as you decide to stop looking for answers in other People and miracles somewhere down the yellow brick road
And click the heels of your mind and set your affections
On things that are more
You could have been free years ago
[Chorus]
I will rejoice
I will rejoice
I will rejoice
[Verse 4]
Look at your neighbor and say: you don't have to get out of trouble
Tell them you don't have to get out of trouble before midnight
You just have to get your mind out of trouble
If you can get your mind out, you can get your money out
You get your family out, you can get your job out
You can get your career out, you can get your health out
You can get your prosperity out, if you can get your mind out
No devil in hell, no weapon formed against you
No enemy that hates you, no witch that hexes you
Can stop you from being free if you can get your mind out
Grab yourself by the head and say, "We're coming out of there"
[Chorus]
I will rejoice
I will rejoice
I will rejoiceLast edited by iloveus; 12-06-2019 at 08:47 AM.

Joel Olsteen isn't a Christian so that would make sense. Hes no different than any other asshoe that gives speeches for money. He's an atheist taking advantage of poor/stupid/desperate people for personal gain. Being Poor or Broke is not dishonoring God. Being Middle class isn't either. But if you aren't making real sacrifice to help your fellow man then you are not following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Joel Olsteen sacrifices nothing.
Jesus was born poor, but about 10 minutes later the 3 wise men made him baller rich. Gold, Mirrh and Linen were all high end luxury gifts. He grew up very well off. Once he started following his path of preaching the word of God and that the only way through God was through his Son (himself) he basically forsook all his wealth except for his clothes (still linen).*Updated* If you can't hit a 320 yard drive, are you even a man?

It's not a sin to be poor, obviously. It IS a sin to sit on your ass, leech off society, and do nothing to improve your position. Osteen doesn't say any of that, he just makes it sound like you're poor because you don't trust in God enough and give him money instead of telling people to actually get a job.

Gotta wonder if this preacher dude has ever even read a bible.......
Luke 6:20-26 New International Version (NIV)
20 Looking at his disciples, he [Jesus] said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.
24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

lol what a piece of chit
he only has money because he tricks others into giving him money
I'm not a christian, but I have always admired the story of St Francis (if he really ever existed, very similar story to Gautama Buddha). And I think it is pretty ez to say St Francis was a much better human than this piece of dogchit.

ITT people are unaweir of evangelicals. Been going to an evangelical church singles group, and everything there is centered around glorifying God.
40yo bald youth pastor wearing jeans to try and look relatable: "What is the definition of a date, guys?"
College student congregation: "An opportunity to glorify God!"
Now I always thought it was a chance to stick your dick in a girl, but perhaps I was mistaken...
Anyway, if you look at it from that perspective, where literally everything you do reflects back on God, you can see where Osteen is coming from. I don't think status-chasing and materialism is the right way to go about that - hell, even the church preaches that those things won't fulfill you, only God will. But I suspect that Osteen is being half srs and half trolling just to grab attention and headline-bait. And it worked.FA Crew

He's a televangelist from Texas dude. It is obvious what he is trying to do. He's a scam artist that wants to hook his audience (greedy americans), so he tells them what they want to hear. Blind materialism is not good. Every dollar wasted on a luxury is a dollar that could have gone to tangibly improving the life of some needy person. As a Christian, he should know that.
