Anyone quit drinking or taken a long break from drinking 6-12 months?

I'm at 20 days myself (I hit 3 weeks tomorrow) and I usually drank every week (once a week) or so myself or did before I decided to take the break.

Thinking about taking 6-12 months off from alcohol or drinking if not at least 3 months or so. Be nice to go 1-2 years, but I figure something will get me eventually even if it's just a few months down the road.

    -----

Anyone have success with a long break from alcohol or drinking and did it make you feel better? I've read articles online that after 5-6 weeks many people notice changes in their live alone.

For the month of November I tried to take the whole month off, only drank 3 times in November and just a one drink each time. I’m just going to keep my drinking down from here on out. Not going to say I won’t drink, but I’ll keep it at minimum.

Drinks once a week and wants to take a break from drinking?

Son, try drinking everyday for ten years and then come back to us about quitting the drink.

This is what I did myself before deciding to take the long break. Drinking 4x max a month or every Friday (not drinking on both days of the weekend alone) or so.

What does that have to do with me? We are on a health and fitness forum more or so and small changes in life when it comes to health alone have always been important (at least important to me).

Did 6 months once when I left the army. We just drank too much out of boredom in the barracks.

OP wasn't posting this as a cawk measuring contest.

I always take Jan and Feb off each year. Tend to hit it hard over the Christmas break and then go completely sober for 8 weeks. Feelsgoodman.

For several years I only had a beer once or twice a month (right after joining this forum and getting into fitness).
I had several life changes / bumps in the road in late 2015 that got me back in the drink everyday crew. It definitely hits the wallet and physique hard.

Moderation is awesome but it can be a tough line to walk. Good luck

Exactly drinking just 1-4 times a month and keep it at minimum unless there’s a special occasion.

I don't and never found alcohol addicting. Drank 4 days a week nearly every week in 1st year, drank less in 2nd year, barely drank for an entire year during final year, etc.

Starting a job soon and this industry especially among the bigger firms appears to have a drinking heavy culture based on what Reddit says but that just means that in events there is always alcohol flowing.

I drink a decent amount for my age. Biggest thing I notice from my breaks is probably increased recovery because when you fill your body/muscles with a load of alcohol it obviously effects it a bit. Even then it doesn't effect me that much and I mainly just drink beer probably like 15-20 a week. 3 beers though? Nothing I notice the next day I'm used to it.

Disclaimer - Alcohol bottom line is not good for the gainz I do not endorse alcoholism. Never quit for longer then a month.

I’m at 2 months now I’ve taken 2 years before. I’m a bad drinker I get drunk almost every time I drink. If I drink one day I’ll drink the next. Have had duis etc... I’m better off without it. I’ve also had my best times drinking as well though so it’s hard sometimes

Good for you man. I'll hit year 3 on Boxing Day. Mean every day drunk for 30 years. Started young and now just figuring out who I am. Never met the adult me sober and don't remember the pre drunk teen years. I have memories, of course, just don't really remember who I was( I mean who really has an identity at 13). Was just starting to figure **** out. Yeah, so anyway. Don't be me. Don't wait till you are 40 to finally get it. I know I'm never going back. Best of luck on your journey man. Stay strong (no homo). Anyone else considering giving it up (you and only will know when you are ready, trust me)...just never stop quitting. If you want your sobriety you gotta fight...hard for it... I hid money on myself, thrown my keys in a lake and even chopped up my bank card. Sound extreme? All the steps I took to stay sober fail in comparison to the things I would do to get drunk, stay drunk or the things I did to myself and loved ones while I was drunk. Oh and **** God. He won't help ya get sober. If A.A. and the church is your thing great. It wasn't mine. I went to one A.A. meeting and I never wanted a drink so bad in my life. Listening to people talk about how ****ty their life is was so fn depressing. I do think everyone should go to one meeting though. Why? To find a sponsor. They will do more for you then any self help group/program. Regards Luke

Good for you sir. I never did count the days. I just remember the day I had enough. Counting days and setting milestones is great for some but for me I didn't need it. I knew I was done. Went to detox for 5 days and started a new chapter. Best of luck

I didn't start until I was 22 or 23 myself for the most part. I didn't even go out for my 21st birthday.

Nothing wrong with stating it. Rather people just state the truth. That's definitely a great length of time though to not drink.

I've always binge drank. Ive always gotten horrible hangovers the next day (mostly just really high anxiety) as far back as when I started at 16. I recently (as in like a couple days ago) have made the choice to take a break for a bit. I went on a kinda bender last weekend (like drank 2 fifths of 100 proof vodka in a day and a half.) I hope I stick with it for awhile. Maybe have a beer or two every now and then in a bit, but for now, I wanna try no drinking whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure drinking once a week will have almost zero negative effect on your physical health especially since eating too much will most likely effect your health more

I was drinking 2 to 3 beers every day of the week for about 6 months. Didn't affect me too adversely but wasn't getting the same enjoyment out of it.

The past month I've been drinking once or twice a week tops, so I've throttled it back a bit.

Last year I took 2 months off and when I returned to drinking noticed how amazing it was for a while, so maybe I need to do another solid reset.

Went almost an entire year alcohol free a few times (deployments), only drinking was on 15 days of leave each year. Felt amazing srs. The last time when I was in afghanland I also did a hard cut and was in the best shape physically/mentally in my whole life, it really does have an effect overall on mood and energy.

Anyone have success with a long break from alcohol or drinking and did it make you feel better? I've read articles online that after 5-6 weeks many people notice changes in their live alone.
ive not drank for serval years and will continue to not drink, I’ll lose everything good in my life but I am a recovering alcoholic. My health got better, my skin got better, my epilepsy got better for the most part, I was able to gain some weight I was very under weight, I started to leave my house for social things, I met my partner and developed some honest friendships.

My life is 100% better and so is my health

While the post you're responding too was retarded, he kind of has a point. I don't think you'll notice any changes eliminating once per week drinking unless you got absolutely trashed (like 24 pack deep) every time.

If you drink daily for 10 years, as I did (although probably closer to 7), then slow down to once a week or eliminate it you'll notice big changes.

I was drinking 8-10 beers a night. Then four years ago I had my yearly physical, the wife insisted on going in with me. So when the doctor asked how much I drank I couldn’t lie. He told me to cut it out so I did. After 2 or 3 weeks I didn’t even miss it anymore.

    Shut up twink.

I'm right AF. LOL at thinking drinking once a week will do something to you.

Bunch of absolute precious little bears on the misc now.
