True but it is also important to remember that high school physics isn't testing the same skills. The skills required for research level physics are very different. I was not the math whiz in my high school courses either. I had an affinity for it and never had to study, but I also never did well in competitions. Those who did generally ended up engineers. I think the skills for physics in high school are similar. Later on, it becomes more about proving things and carefully deducing things. It's a different set of skills. Some are great at both, of course.

im saying you can't prove either. you're just settling on the side that doesn't allow for growth. the nature vs. nurture debate goes on forever and is almost impossible to prove
i mean.. imagine you didn't put ANY effort into anything at all. you were just a stationary object that did nothing. would all that "talent" matter; so on some level you'd prob agree with me that it takes a concerted effort to facilitate something?
it's very hard to isolate the two
you gave your reasons why you thought you he was an inherent prodigy. i gave you reasons that could potentially falsify your claims. if you answered honestly, you'd have to admit that you don't know the kids background. that he could have been exposed to something that helped him facilitate his success.
regardless, you also think this kid is some prodigy in math. i gave you an example of where his "interest" in math and therefore disinterest comparatively in baseball caused a disparity in skill gap simply due to the time dedicated to honing his craft
to be quite honest, i think there's more evidence of it being environment

High school physics is basically figuring out what information you have plugging the variables in and using algebra to make the variables you do have answer the question posed. Also requires a lot of trig. I was always good at those two. I hated calculus and all calculus based physics that I ended up taking. It's much harder to visualize derivatives and integrals and how they correspond on a graph for me compared to trig based stuff. I took all the way through differential equations and hated all of it. The only 3000 level and up engineering classes I enjoyed were Mechanics of Materials and Soil Mechanics

I've seen kids who had excellent parents and studied really hard 2-3 hrs a day just to get by...There is a curve, man. It shouldn't be surprising to anyone that just as there are manlets and manmores, there are people who are bad at things and good at things. You underestimate genetic effects here. I once met a woman who was otherwise seemingly intelligent, but who had some sort of brain abnormality where she could not perform elementary arithmetic. She couldn't "do" arithmetic. She memorized her way through everything. She would symbolically manipulate and regurgitate without having any quantitative understanding of the numbers. It was really weird, and I suspect she had dyscalculia.

You say its difficult to make and keep friends especially as you get older. I agree with this, but I'm guessing instead of actually putting effort into it you are instead just complaining about it. What kind of effort do you actually make to accomplish this? Do you join meet up groups, take lessons, volunteer?

I think one of the reasons (I'm not saying it's the only reason) that people have an aversion to considering that is that there has been a movement for some time stating that the 'genetically inferior' are worthless.
That's what a lot of the Race and IQ, and pro-eugenics brigade say. Basically if you have a low IQ, learning disability, down syndrome, etc, you have less value as a person - and should be excluded or purged from society.
One of my favourite books; Flowers For Algernon By Daniel Keyes explores that notion (as well as other themes). The lead character has an operation to raise his IQ from 64 to genius level. And he becomes disgusted and saddened to realize that some people didn't consider him a person with any value or dignity, when he had a low IQ.If You Don't Like To Talk About Your Feelings, This Might Help...
