nice build, I think the power supply is slightly overkill but not a big deal. Could probably go with a Corsair 650w gold cert for $20-30 cheaper but that's probably pinching pennies at this point

IMO power supply is way more important than people acknowledge. PSU's can cause lots of headaches that will have you chasing your tail thinking you have other hardware issues if they're not strong enough or poor quality. Id' rather have 200 watts more than what's really needed than be riding the line. Plus later on if you want a more powerful GPU, etc, you've got the power.

Fair enough and I actually agree that PSUs are something that you shouldn't skimp out on. There are alot of power supplies out there that will say 600 or 700 watts but they are some off-brand chit and the 700 watts is just peak wattage not continuous. Many pre-builts tend to skimp on PSUs. I remember my friend's old Thermaltake PSU exploding despite it saying it was 600 watts which in theory should be able to handle an RTX 2060. He was lucky it didn't fry his CPU, GPU and motherboard.

But imo something something gold certified with 600-650 watts from a reputable brand is more than fine for people who want a high-end gaming PC that isn't some sort of super-computer with multiple top of the line GFX who are on a budget. I think it would be good for a very long time. OP's build probably runs at around 450w, maybe 500w max. but yeah like I said if he really wanted to save more money he could go with a bit cheaper of a PSU

Basically 2k (1080p) is too little for that card and 4k (2160p) is probably too much. I'd go with 2.5k or 1440p no matter what at least and avoid 4k completely.

    I'd suggest something like this.

well I was hoping to have the full PC + monitor for under 2 grand in total. Considering I'm already overbudget at 1850 that really doesn't leave much room for anything good. I like your idea of the 1440 and it makes sense. I'm open to suggestions, ideally something on the more budget side of things. If I could find something for say 300-350 that would be great.

    I have the MSI MAG32CQR (1140 res, 1ms response, 144 refresh) and it's a SUPER nice monitor.

you missed alot of good deals brah

there were very decent monitors going for 200-250

    https://www.newegg.com/black-red-ace...82E16824009769

this one is the best I could find for you or for more money you can go with this. It's of the cheaper variety for 1440p monitors but still plenty good

    https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475024

I heard somewhere that Nvidia has made its graphics cards compatible with freesync monitors, might wanna double check that though.

ideally you want a 1440p 144hz monitor. TN Panels are going to be cheaper and have less lag but the IPS panels look fuking beautiful, expensive af tho. But this the rig you are going to buy and just switching to a 1440p with 144hz is going to make a world of difference.

edit: fukkk this one is really nice, probably the better monitor, and cheaper too/on sale, i would get on this chit rigth now

Did a bit of research and for the price point that looks really nice. It's successor the S2719DGF is actually "amazon's choice" but I watched a video comparing the two and it seems like despite being older the one you linked is actually better. Looks like all the best buys around me have it in stock so I'll most likely swoop one up.

I'm not sure what to tell you on this. $300-$400 to get a decent one for what you bought.

You got a nice 2070 card and I wouldn't go too low budget after doing something like that.

Might want to search around for the best 1440p monitors of 2019. I figure you could probably get a decent 27" inch one for maybe under $300.

Best I can do is this at $263.

Well, OP bought his PC now so I'll answer:

I came home from work on Wednesday - played some games. Went to make a tea, came back and hardware locked - boot loop ensued. Motherboard is dead. Now I'm using an old motherboard with an overclocked 2600K from...2010 I think?

So I'm going to be getting CPU, Motherboard and RAM asap. But this is directly after sales. Having said that, the 3950X wasn't on sale much, nor was the X570 Aorus Extreme...nor are the tight timing RAM kits I'm interested in. In fact the RAM is pretty much sold out if you're in the tight timing market. So I'm having a hard time getting around this 'sales' thing here for PC stuff. I did get a sick deal on the LG C9 65" on Black Friday though.

tl;dr - will there be any decent sales on 'higher end' PC stuff in December? Or at all?

I'll be doing a video card / monitor replacement once the 3080Ti comes out.

Think longer term mane. Intel's 10nm desktop CPUs are just around the corner. If you buy a top end CPU + Motherboard now, then you'll be missing out since your motherboard will be geared towards outdated CPU sockets. If you wait a few months for the 10nm CPU, your motherboard will be compatible with upcoming CPUs for years to come, if you want to upgrade in the future.

Or at all?

I'll be doing a video card / monitor replacement once the 3080Ti comes out.
well, amd is constantly on sale it seems, feel like you can get that for a decent price i know the 3700x was at 300 yesterday not sure if it still is

/reddit-buildapcsales this is where i find alot of good deals on pc parts

I have been thinking longer term for quite some time now. Incremental upgrades from Intel meant that my 4.2Ghz overclocked 2600K lasted me from 2010 until now - and it still works, but the motherboard failure means I'll probably ebay it. On the 10nm front, here's what Anandtech had to say in their 10980XE review:

"In 2019, we have had Intel’s 10nm products now pop up in portable form factors, such as high-end laptops. This is hardware that is far from ubiquitous, but at least it isn’t vaporware any more. We even tested the reference system earlier this year before they went on sale, and the results were fairly good by comparison. However, despite this, we have yet to see 10nm on the desktop. Intel has promised 10nm Ice Lake Xeons for enterprise (production ramp H2 2020), and has stated that 10nm ‘will come to the desktop’, but Intel isn't there quite yet.

To that end, we get more 14nm products. Officially Intel doesn’t like to mention whether a product is on its 14nm process, 14+, 14++, or anything beyond that – partly because it just further indicates that it isn’t 10nm, but also it wants to focus its messaging on the product regardless of the process node. One of Intel’s VPs, at a recent tour of its fabs by the European press, stated in not so many words that ‘consumers don’t care about process nodes, so you shouldn’t either’. Take from that what you will."

I do not really appreciate the way that Intel has been treating its customers in the CPU market for the last while. On the 'features' side of things, AMD offers much more - today. And given this hardware failure I'm looking at options now. Also, H2 2020 for Intel 10nm (if it arrives) means it'll go up against AMD's next CPU as far as I'm aware. So it isn't really points for Intel either way.

Thanks. Yeah the 3700x was on slickdeals and elsewhere too but the 'higher end' (HEDT, Threadripper, etc.) parts don't appear to be on sale much.

How about waiting until boxing day? Any other U.S sales periods left this year aside from that?
