STATE OF NEW JERSEY v. GREGORY GRIFFIN

Defendant was charged in Essex County Indictment Number 2003-03-802 with third-degree receipt of stolen property, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7 (count one); two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(6) (counts two and three); fourth-degree possession of a weapon, an automobile, under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for its lawful use, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d (count four); two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon, an automobile, for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d (counts five and six); two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3 (counts seven and eight); and second-degree eluding a police officer, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2b (count nine).

The charges against defendant arose from an incident occurring on August 11, 2001, in Newark. On August 8, 2001, a 2001 gray BMW automobile owned by Roy McLean was stolen in Millburn. At approximately 10:54 p.m., Newark police officers received a report of two vehicles driving erratically. Upon investigating, they saw that one of the vehicles was McLean's BMW vehicle, which was occupied by defendant and a friend. When the officers had the BMW surrounded, the vehicle was driven head-on into one of the police patrol vehicles. Thereafter, defendant fled on foot and was apprehended.
Stole a car, fled from police, drives it head on into the patrol vehicle. Right back at it in 2019, but now with guns. Would have just been a matter of time before they tried to steal the wrong car, and someone got shot like in your story. And we are charging the cop for finally taking out the trash? What ghey fuking world is this?

Yeah, I lived in the next town over and frequently shopped at the Short Hills Mall. Of the four Newark guys charged for murdering the man:

    - In April, Thompson admitted that he had tried to burglarize a Newark home a week before the Short Hills carjacking, pleading guilty in state Superior Court to a third-degree burglary charge. The Prosecutor's Office said police officers responding to a reported burglary on Weequahic Avenue on Dec. 7, 2013 found Thompson at the rear of the property holding a drill. Thompson, who was arrested after a foot chase, was released on bail Dec. 11 — four days prior to Friedland's death.

    - Authorities said that on March 9, 2013 — roughly nine months before Friedland's slaying — Newark police officers responding to a 911 call in the area of Muhammad Ali Drive and Prince Street found Ford, under the influence of PCP, passed out on a nearby lawn with a gun in his jacket. At trial in April 2015, his attorney argued Ford wasn't guilty because he wasn't conscious when he was found with the gun, making it impossible for him to knowingly possess it. The jury acquitted him of the gun charge.

    - Authorities said that at the time of Friedland’s killing, Henry — the alleged getaway driver — was on supervised release from a 2006 robbery conviction, having been released from federal prison in October 2012. Authorities said he repeatedly violated his probation after being released, winding up in a halfway house after he was caught driving with a convicted felon in February 2013. He was released from the halfway house that April.

If a cop would have "accidentally" shot and killed one of those Newark men during any of those previous incidents, maybe the innocent shopper from Short Hills would still be alive.

Yup. Funny these are all democratic cities. But thats another point.

Bottom line is besides Newark airport, no one has ever been there, so they really wont understand what Newark is all about.

I would love to see this criminals history. If you are over the age of 17, and run from the cops in a high speed chase, I dont pity you.

This country needs stricter punishments. What do they really think is going to happen when a criminal gets released from prison after a murder?

Killing armed robbers is very well what fleeing fugitive case laws are protecting. it LOOKS bad but to be honest there's only one alternative, here it goes:

    1. Allow the suspects to shoot at you first.

Other than that I kind of want to get rid of my comb over now.
That's what we do in this ****, brah.

Ok? Am I supposed to feel bad? Im from NJ and Newark is a serious cesspool. Feel bad for the cop. Anyone who runs (high speed chase which is deadly) deserves it.

If youve never been to Newark (not the airport), please dont comment. Place is infested with crime.

The Brazilian/Portuguese/Spanish side is safe, growing.. The other side, not so much
This exactly. Been to Newark many times as an NJ native, **** that place.
Yes... come and let us make an end of it. It matters not, even cornered, to my last breath... I remain who and what I am. I will not hide, nor tremble, nor beg. Let them come and reckon with fury that is DOOM defiant.

Obviously he wasn't trigger happy. He got a gun pointed at him, either him or them. He was in shock after, visibly shaking and just kept saying "I shot him. He's done". You can tell he was in shock and felt guilty after.

The funny thing is that when I first watched the video I skipped some parts and then thought why the fk is this on loop bc the cop got out and shot and then got back in and drove and then got out and shot, I thought it was a 60 sec video with it being looped. But when I watched the entire thing I was like wtf bro calm down, even his partner was telling him to calm down. Idk if the suspects could have surrendered even if they wanted to bc of Judge Dredd going hard in the paint.

I could see that if he shot at him once but near the end his super is asking him where the cop shot from bc the officer had fired from like 4 different streets when they stopped.

let's be honest that cop acted like a coked up trigger happy retard, but again if more cops did this maybe we'd have less people engendering the lives of the general public. Definitely seemed super aggressive, but that guy is putting everyone's life at risk, including the cops. They've got a split second decision to make and if they make the wrong one they end up dead, but ultimately when you're in that position more is expected

If it was up to my I would done what the cop would have done IF there was a gun in place, armed, and on the run.

I've seen a lot of shooting in my city on the news where the guy runs out of gas then get outs and starts shooting at the cops. Guarantee that would have happened at one point.

I’ve been to many parts of the US, many bad neighborhoods. Newark is one of the only places where i felt like i would legit be in danger after the sun goes down. It is the compton of the east coast srs. I remember getting lost and stopping at a gas station at like 1 in the afternoon. The 7-11 guy was behind bulletproof glass with only a bank teller style money slide. If you wanted a product he had to pick it off from behind him and switch it through the chute. A lot of people that are from chitholes stuff like that doesnt even bother them but for me that and the numerous street corner dealers and junkies were alarming. Unpopular opinion but.. philly was also bad.

I dont know if you guys caught this though.. after they got shot and the rookie goes to pull the passenger out of the car looks like he has some sort of mechanics gloves tucked into his belt and they don't look like they were about to do an oil change

After seeing this video, I've come to the conclusion the world is a better place without these people in it. How hard is it to comply with basic commands from a police officer?

He couldn't see a gun from the back with the windows tinted. At least that was the statement from his partner who was driving, and trying to calm him down.

idk about that, wouldnt say you shoot ever hot pursuit suspect. but when you put yourself in this cops shoes: running up to a car with tinted windows in hot pursuit, info says driver/passanger have gun, middle of the night...

idk about you but i should as fuk wouldnt have the balls do go in rambo style and risk my life like that, and even if i did i know sure as fuk i wouldnt be level headed and calm during that.

we can bitch and cry about the ethics of this all day long but its because of guys like that cop who do have balls to go in rambo style and risk life and limb that your street are that much safer.

thats my take on this anyway..
