    Eating mainly protein from beans?

Hey guys, was wondering if protein from beans like chick peas, or red beans, would be sufficient for muscle growth?

I'm currently dealing with post-concussion syndrome, i've been out of a job for 7 months, and so don't have a source of income, so money is tight, just ran out of whey protein, I ordered more in bulk but it could take several weeks to get to me. But i've got all these beans in my cupboards was thinking of using it as my source of protein for now. If not I might go out and buy skim milk and cereal.

Well, considering it's a money issue, you can only do what you can do.... if beans are your only option for a short timeframe you won't shrink down immediately, but I wouldn't do ONLY beans long term..

Hopefully you have other sources of calories than just beans...

I mean I got a lot of other carb sources stored, but meat is expensive here. Been on that oats and whey, ramen, spaghetti, and vegetables diet.

food bank only gave me beans and granola bars lol

Lentils would be a better option if you can cook them, but in a pinch if you have to rely on beans, you can only do what you can do.... being able to pay rent is more important than muscles.

Yes the protein from beans is enough for muscle growth. Just make sure you get enough total protein. If you're not eating meat I would go with at least 0.8 gram protein per lb.

Is tinned tuna cheap over there? I always thought it seemed the case everywhere. Here, tuna and mackeral in tins is quite cheap for the less-known brands anyways.

MyProtein site sell cheap protein powder and they pretty much always have offers on.

Also, peanut butter and nuts are good. Eggs too are mostly cheap. Just shop around until you can find a few different sources of food. Beans are fine, but you may find a time you'll struggle to eat them every single day.
I have a good joke about water retention. But I'm going to hold onto it for now.

As long as you hit your protein macros beans are fine. They are low in certain amino acids so keep your intake balanced with other foods to optimize MPS.

I'm limited to the stores I can go to because of my concussion symptoms. The nearby grocery stores are pretty expensive for tuna and eggs unfortunately. it's like $8 for 6 cans of tuna. and $5 for 12 eggs. meat is actually alright on sale at my nearby grocery store but I just get so addicted to it. I don't think i'm thinking straight because of my injury lol. Once I buy something I just keep spending everyday.

actually the tuna is not bad. $8 for 6 cans. a can should have about 40g of protein i'm guessing. might buy it tmr. nvm 2 bucks a can. still good

I'd actually say he would need to aim a little higher in overall protein if it's from beans... so the minimum would be closer to 1g-1.2g/pound... unless he's on very very high calories.

Eating in a calorie deficit while recovering would not be ideal; healing takes energy, and it's better to eat at least maintenance. No reason to short change your body right now.

Thanks, yeah i often forget that, my mind is just so whack right now, should i bulk should i cut lol. cause I gained fat resting in earlier stages of my recovery, but i'm actually stronger in the gym than i was before my concussion because of this excess weight lol i think.

I'm expecting that will be a bit higher than necessary. Even with only beans it should be quite easy to get 3 meals with ±3 gram leucine in each.

can you buy cheap chicken in bulk?

ask your butcher if they have older meats they are willing to sell to you for cheaper

look at seeds, nuts, whole milk, frozen basa fillets

I put my beans in water over night and then warm and eat them - much easier on my stomach
