    Why Don't Dragsters use Caterpillar Treads

    At least like 2 mini rubber ones for the drive/rear wheels. You could basically double/triple the surface area contacting the ground or more and get a 0-60 mph faster than ~2 seconds. It might weight more but I'm talking about cars in the 1000+ horsepower territory which have the limiting factor of traction, not power or torque.

    Yea it might suck at turning but we are going for a straight line anyways.

    I would imagine that once the dragster was up to speed there would be too much risk of them coming loose. Caterpillar tracks aren't design for high speed...

    You would need some kind of cooling system at high speeds. There would be so much heat from the friction in the tracks. Im sure there is a lot of energy losses associated with it too.

    You can increase the surface area in other ways like big tires which is what they already do. You could have AWD but not alot of weight on the front tires at acceleration so you could also put dual rear tires, but Im sure its not done for energy losses with a more complex drive train and Im sure the tires are sized to get the needed surface area for the engine.





    At high speeds, the metal on metal parts of the track would look like a run away anchor. The metal would be heating up, possibly warping ect.

    Well I guess the system could be enclosed and be well lubricated and cooled somehow. A transmission spins at 100s of times per second with metal on metal just fine.

    How is it more likely vs a regular wheel? I assumed worse case you may have some slippage with too much torque for the design

    lol top fuel dragsters have a 0-60 of 0.8 seconds. Good luck with your caterpillar treads at 330mph
