Nice squatting! Always admire your groove.

I blow the dust off my squat shoes once or twice a year just to make sure they still work.

To me it is a mindset, where I just want to stay above, but I dont really train for it. Kind of pointless but it at least makes me feel like I have not lost it to badly

Excellent big man. Have a couple questions for you if you don't mind. Was wondering how you came to gripping the bar like you do? It looks like you grab the bar inside the j-hooks to unrack and then once you are stable you move your hands all the way out. Is that because of shoulder issues or just more comfortable because of your size? Also, how the heck do you re-rack that bar with your hands in that position without smashing a finger or 2 once in a while?

I've just become accustomed to a super wide grip. I guess because of all my shoulder issues. When I compete we use a mono-lift so I just have the hooks moved in and then I don't need to reposition my hands.

In 25+ years of lifting I've smashed a finger exactly 2 times. I try not to do that.

Ya, I think "still" is the important word in that sentence, as it implies it happened in the first place. I just did a 500+lbs Yoke walk with a tree on my back a couple of weeks ago at that Vikings thing in DC. Does that count for anything?

Never tried 500 squat. Beast, very strong deep squats. I can still squat 300 though LOL.

Thanks for clarifying. I also have an issue squatting with my shoulder which had surgery a number of years ago. Never really got the full range of motion back in it. Its not terrible but it is uncomfortable especially doing low bar. I have to work on just getting under the bar for a few minutes before I begin actually squatting and I grab the bar just as close to the J-hooks as I can without risk of pinching a finger. Man does that hurt when that happens! I don't feel confident in moving my hands on the bar once unracked.

The most I've ever done is 495. I don't max on the squat often but I did hit 455 for 4 reps a few weeks ago. I may try 500 in the near future.

    Very impressive lift m8.

I likely will never get a 500 pound squat. I'm more likely to get a 600 pound Deadlift before a 500 squat.
