it's alarming that national debt is @ ath levels in this economy

Preface: I understand that carrying a large national debt is not in and of itself a negative.

If there's one thing every POTUS fails to address it's the trajectory of our national debt (Clinton did a good job, however). I'm not saying that it needs to be halved immediately. But it would have been nice if in times like these where the economy is strong that our leaders would at least attempt to think of long term solutions to controlling the national debt.

While I'm not alarmed but just the numbers, I am alarmed by the numbers in context of our economy's health. Jobs numbers are good, wages are increasing, albeit at a slower than desired rate, stock market hitting ath numbers, USD still considered the go to around the world, inflation numbers low. What better time to at least stop national debt growth?

When (not if) the economy does start to experience uncertainty...there's not much that will be able to be done without further increasing the national debt growth.

It is admittedly not an issue that politicians can take on without losing points. Much like curtailing health care and social security costs, it's a difficult problem to address without losing large segments of the population.

It doesn't even have to be solved. Just control the trajectory.

The problem is that there's nothing in it for a politician to address the issue.

We need to stop letting in people who can’t support themselves or speak English. After that we should start directly talking about budget cuts. An er for example has to serve everyone that comes in regardless of their ability to pay. One way to stem the bleeding is to abide by immigration laws and not let in people who are financial burdens.

Read up on the irequirements to becoming a us citizen. You have to be self sufficient or those that vouch for you should be taking care of your debts. You are required to know English.

We spend a ahit ton of money printing things in multiple languages when every citizen should know English.

I can go on and on.

There should be only 2 variations of written language on a ballot-English and Braille

Time to shut down the welfare state. If you think it's bad now just look at what the CBO projects for Medicare/Medicaid/SS explosion the next 20 years.

If Trump doesn't address this in his second term it's good game, America. We have to start letting old people die of cancer instead of keeping them barely alive for another year at the cost of $200k while they vomit daily and chit their pants constantly from chemo.

Everything that I've read and seen on this issue is frustrating: the solution is in theory not difficult. The issue that legislators run into is that the people effected by the medicare/medicaid/ss vote. The percentage of old folks that turn out to vote compared to other demos is off the charts. And you can't sell them on reasonable solutions because nobody wants to sacrifice anything.

And it's not even like we're seeing the national debt increase as a result of initiatives that can be help sure up a healthy economy going forward. Nothing has come about from the bi-partisan support of a national infrastructure overhaul. Instead we got a poverty tax cuts that didn't do nuffin.

It's scary because everything will be fine until we go too far and then once it does it is going to get real bad real fast. What is also scary is how the newer generation wants to be taken care of and we get Sanders or one of these liberals that wants to give more away to the lazy we are in real trouble. As of now, Social Security/Medicare is a scary one. The government uses the funds that come in just as tax revenue, when they were supposed to be saving it or investing it. I think the only thing that is keeping it alive is that so many people work themselves to death or die early where they contributed a lot of money, and never collect. If they cure cancer (like as in make cancer only deadly if untreated), regenerate organs (already working on that with some success) or God forbit stop the aging process, it's going to snap like a twig. Maybe we need to do some above ground nuke test again and start allowing tobacco companies to advertise on air and in the schools again to keep the population over 65 at a minimum. (not srs on that part)

I disagree about your assessment of the 'newer generation.' Without wading into the political part of your point, the problem with the national debt has nothing to do with the 'newer generation.' If anything I think the millennial lifestyle is conducive to national debt reduction. It's no the millennials that are banking on the government to take care of their lifestyle after their working days are over. If anything, it's millennials that have proven to be more willing to sacrifice for the greater good.

I don't think Medicare is the problem but big Pharma and their "interesting" influence in government.

Ppl go to Canada for the same medication wich costs 100x less than in the US, all because Canadian government is regulating these pharma prices.

You need basic medicare in a country to have all ppl able to go to a doctor. Now its for the filthy rich. And medicare is too expensive.
