Was going to post something about depreciation and then scrolled to see you got hit. I assume you're okay but damn man that really sucks. Sorry about the luck. What happened after? Did the guy have insurance? Was he impaired (other than his normal lack of intelligence)? X5 looks like it held up well but at a minimum needs new hatch, bumper cover, etc. Does it open?

I was ****ing furious. I was literally stopped at a intersection and the guy just blows into me.

I got out and he gets out with his insurance card, hands it to me... I'm like what the **** man, I got this car delivered 2 hours ago... He just mumbles like "Look like my car take most damage".

I'm kind of like wtf, pull my phone out and he looks at me weird as I'm like hey give me your phone number too. Guy says, "Teck don cawl". like, "Text don't call" but with a clear speech impediment.

I'm like 95% sure the guy is deaf. Would make sense that he didn't hear the ambulance coming, obviously he still wasn't paying attention since he hit me about 4 seconds after I was stopped.

Lol I know all about the depreciation. I do plenty fine financially, I really enjoy the car. I'll keep it till at least 100k miles as I did with my last one.

I am okay, definitely a little whiplash. You know the day it happened I was pissed but felt okay, that night I definitely was feeling real sore/tight in my neck and upper traps. Couple days later still feeling the effects.

The guy did have insurance. He wasn't impaired that I could tell besides possibly being deaf and/or "slow".

The car held up incredibly well, he hit me at minimum of 25mph, prob closer to 30-35. It didn't even push into any of the crumple zones. The rear bar was bent a bit but besides that until they get it apart it appears mainly cosmetic stuff. Seems the engineering differences really have improved over the years. The rear lift gate does open, but I haven't tried to open the lower half as it appears pretty smashed in and I'd hate for it to open and then not get it closed again.

Get checked out ASAP op. Neck, upper and lower back. Have them CT your brain and neck and MRI your back. Do all this before you let your insurance company settle with his. Get a lawyer (srs).
I got rear ended in a Fusion while I was at a dead stop in 2017 and my back has been fuked since. Now I get a bulged disc around once a year that puts me on my ass for about a week. First time it happened was almost exactly a year after the accident and it was the most painful thing that has ever happened to me. Literally writhing in pain at the ER for 5 hours because they were out of dilauded (used for extreme inflammation such as when you have a bulged disc.) in the entire hospital. They finally gave me fentanyl which was enough to get me to grandpa walk out the door. Definitely directly caused by the accident.
The other driver was going over 30 and in an 06 Range Rover. I definitely should have had my lawyer go after more for compensation. Haven't been able to Golf consistently and am constantly aware my back could go out. I'm no even 30 yet.
I did/do Chriopractic, Massage, and got an inversion table to help with the pain. Most days its okay but when its bad its really bad.

Once they do a tear down, final bill prob be 8-14+k. Why body shops make tons of cash. No matter how good the shop is, nothing is like Original paint. Heads up OP, In CA with companies like Mercury, certain repair facilities are only allowed to use OEM PARTS for everything AKA authorized bmw repair centers.. Other mom and pop shops get used parts....you got the new body so should be all OEM anyway

Yeah I was tight for about 3-4 weeks and with Chiro and yoga and massage I thought I was getting better, then BAM back goes out and I'm at square 1. I was in the best shape of my life when it happened too.
Biggest things you'll need to ALWAYS be cognizant about are how you pick things up. Even really light stuff. Avoid bending over at the waist as much as possible. Othere than that just keep your core strong and you'll be much less likely to have any issues later on.

Already discussed here, but I got rear ended by a guy going 40-50 when I was at a dead stop. Totaled both cars. Perfectly fine right afterwords, a little sore the next day, the 2nd day i was getting out of a chair and my hip locked up and wouldn't move for a minute. Ended up with soft tissue in back and hip, sciatic nerve pain...Ended up having to do the MRIs, CTs, and 3 months of physical therapy. Had to get a lawyer, etc...have not been able to deadlift consistently since then without randomly going to snap city and not being able to walk.

Moral of the story: My lawyer said ANYTIME you get hit, take the ambulance to the ER and suggest a full battery of tests. It will not change your physical outcome but it will change your payout, as you are paid as a multiplier of your medical expenses.

That's how it works, had a body shop back in the days. Supplements aka damages after the initial estimate is written once the damaged parts are removed is where the real money is made by the body shops. Some 18 wheeler dropped something from his truck and went under my new s63, made a minor scratch on part of the exhaust among other stuff that got damaged...one exhaust part was 5k alone.
