We need to talk about Michael Thomas

He is approaching Jerry Riceville, and quickly. From a statistical standpoint, he's going to be the greatest there ever was at this rate.

At the very least, he is the front runner for MVP.

415 4928 28 Thomas so far through 4 years and today's soft ass passing rules.

264 4881 49 Jerry Rice through his first 4 years and era when defense could actually touch WRs/QBs

Rice also had 4 TDs on the ground in those seasons.

Thomas is playing great but talk about being force fed.

So being "force fed" means he can't be as good or better than Rice?

Thomas has never had a season were he averaged more than 12 yards a reception. Among top 30 WR Thomas is last in receptions over 20 yards.

Theirs a reason Thomas the majority of Thomas catches are over the middle, theirs a reason he lines up in the slot more than any “number 1 receiver”. If you put Thomas on a island outside the numbers he would get shutdown.

If you were to poll every DC in the nfl I would be willing to bet they would say it’s harder to game plan for Tyreek Hill than Thomas. Nobody doubles Thomas, he’s fortunate he landed in the perfect system for his skill set

So you're using two hypothetical scenarios to try and prove a point. 1) If you lined up MT on the outside he would get shut down. 2) DC don't fear MT.

Do you have any stats / facts / proof of those statements?

If you were to poll every DC in the nfl I would be willing to bet they would say it’s harder to game plan for Tyreek Hill than Thomas. Nobody doubles Thomas, he’s fortunate he landed in the perfect system for his skill set

Thomas rarely lines up on the outside how is that hypothetical????? Do watch games???? I’m sure Payton who knows about offense does it on purpose lol

I already posted the stats that prove my point, you know what other WR has similar numbers to Thomas? Jarvis Landry, the main difference is coach and QBs Landry has played with.

Here’s another little stats among active WR with over 400 receptions only 3 have a lower yard per reception average, Edelman, Amendola, and Jarvis Landry

    3 slot WR....

    You conveniently avoided my questions.

You said if they line him up outside he'll get shut down. Do you have stats / evidence that would prove that statement?

You also said DCs don't fear him. Do you have prove of this? I have a hard time thinking someone catches 8-10 passes a game isn't someone that other teams try to game plan around.

Do you have stats proving he isn't double covered very much?

And for the record, I'm not saying MT is the best, I'm only replying to your claims as they don't seem to be based on anything other than your feelings.

Receptions have never won someone a game. Thomas has been terrific but when you're getting a ton of passes in a passer friendly era by one of the best QBs to ever do it with most of your games in a dome...yeah you're going to have pretty good numbers.

The fact that the yardage numbers are so close despite the different eras but Rice having way more TDs makes the comparison way premature.

Btw Thomas got those numbers in 52 career starts. Jerry got those numbers in 47 starts.

Lettuce not pretend that Jerry Rice didn't play with two HOF QBs in his career. So it's not like he had scrubs throwing him the ball in SF, which is the ideal place to play if you're outdoors.

Comparing MT to Rice at this point is too early. If MT can keep this pace up for his entire career and can play for close to what Rice did, we can compare then.

It’s proven by the way Payton uses him, theirs no such stats of “WR facing double coverages”. Payton isn’t gonna put Thomas on the outside as much cause it’s his obvious weakness. Coaches are gonna coach to player strength that’s obvious

Do you even watch games?its not that hard to see. Show me multiple highlights of him getting doubled

Here’s his first half highlights, not once he was doubled, I counted 7 times where he lined up outside the numbers and stayed outside. All which were comeback routes or back shoulder fades

Jerry Rice has averaged better per game numbers without Montana or Young for one.

Two you're the one who decided to question my post acting like somehow WRs getting force fed but getting less impact production in terms of scoring puts him on Jerry Rice like track.

Sure Thomas could keep getting better and start putting up 1700 yard 20 TD seasons year after year and then his numbers would actually rival Rice.

Right now saying he's anywhere near Jerry Rice given the difference in TDs and YPR is dumb.

You can say a guy is playing great football and not pretend he's on the track of the GOAT WR.
