Red face Bench almost more than you squat crew....

405lb bencher, barely over a 405lb squatter, just LOL @ me...

Not like my legs are small or weak either..... I train them hard, move tons of weight on other movements but getting any kind of respectable squat has been brutality for me. I started squatting 2x a week this past month, so we will see how that goes.

Anyone else want to join my crew?

I'm the other way round lol, i look at a squat rack and my squat goes up but i've always struggled hard with bench, probably down to leverage.

Brb, get on bench , look like a beast.

Go squat and get mogged hard AF by guys 60lbs lighter than me. People are probably waiting for me to throw 5 plates on and start repping. Fukin lol when I start struggling with 405 for a few.

405 for a few is still not exactly bad brah, just look at it as your bench is exceptional rather than your squat sucking

One day i'll hit a 405 bench... one day. It took me probably 2-3 years to go from 315 to 350, struggle is real. I weigh 205ish @ 6'3 though, adding some bodyweight would probably help.

Why do you think you struggle with squat, since you seem to train it often? Do you think it's a leverage issue or something else?

my numbers are more or less balanced

ive benched around 365, squatted 525 and deadlifted 605

I used to struggle a lot with deadlift but ironically I think it's probably the lift I am most comfortable with. i do have long arms for my size so there is that

with that said it happens if you don't really train squat that much. you could have strong legs but a subpar squat due to technique and not practicing it. alot of bench specialists have higher bench than squat because, that's all they do lol.

Julius Maddox benching 700 x 3 and making it look so easy it's actually scary. Doubt the guy could squat or deadlift even close to what he is benching.

I think it's mechanics. My wife is a PT, and said I have "high knee caps". I don't know WTF that means for squatting but she indicated it could be a problem with mechanics.

True there....but I definitely wouldn't say I dedicate more to benching that squatting. Benching and deadlifting especially I'm naturally good at. I've pulled over 600 multiple times with minimal dedication to pulling. Mostly just speed pulls vs. resistance.

I'm a little over sig #s now, 320/430/525 I struggle with increasing bench over the other two just like most guys. 405 bench is other worldly from my POV.

You ever had your squat form assessed by someone who puts up big numbers? Might rule out the high knee caps deal for a different mechanical issue.

I would love to find a local coach who could do this, but there are VERY few if any. I'd be willing to travel sometime to meet an expert.

Having a shorter femur would actually give you a mechanical advantage when squatting.

Anyway I'm in the opposite crew. I worked way harder to a 245 bench than I did to get a 405 squat. Probably has something to do with my ridiculously long arms and tiny wrists

Pittston Pennsylvania, there are some coaches around, but none that I'd trust. There is a forum member here that is very knowledgeable I am going to hit up.

Interesting. Most people are like this though, I routinely see people squatting 315+ at the gym, but there is a small handful who are repping 315 on bench at my gym.

I have long arms and bench is brutally slow gains that don't stick if i take a break. Squat was always somewhat fine, I looked like **** and was still repping 405+ in college w/ ease just doing a linear progression. Deadlifts went up so easy too. win some lose some i guess.

    Biomechanics of peace.

*fist bump* it was a great feeling. Told my buddy at work that 205 felt really good last weekend so i was going for 215 and i'd be snagging him for a spot. Did 2 really easy reps at 215, he said "give me another", and i said no and reracked the weights and tossed 225 on there. Got 2 sets of 2 really easy.

Anyone who rags on Gym bros and gym intimidation is just going to a chitty gym. Basically everyone was coming by for the next hour giving me fist bumps and super excited.

This is pretty much everyone with any kind of knee injury. Torn meniscus and I don't like to squat heavy. Will ATG 225 or so for flexibility but I don't usually push over 315 parallel because my knees start hurting.

This makes sense, but I have issues with my knees thankfully. I barely have any pain these days in them even from wear and tear.

It means you can bench with your legs and squat with your arms, OP.

So you were squatting 1x per week and wonder why your squat sucks?

What's with bodybuilders and following absolutely moronic training programs? It's been common knowledge for like 20 years that training anything 1x per week is retarded.

    Nice bench though.

Is it hard to understand that some guys are just more mechanically inclined to certain lifts?

I've never squatted more than once a week and hit close to 500lbs, i've benched 2-3x a week on multiple occasions to hit a poverty 350.

Alright. I saw up there that you were saying you might have bad mechanics and you want to see a powerlifting coach to get it assessed. What's the point? Regardless of what they tell you how is that going to change your approach to training? It shouldn't. If you have bad mechanics all you can do is increase volume overtime the same as you would if you had good mechanics, you're just working with somewhat less. Don't try to set limits upon yourself.

Increase weekly volume by increasing frequency of SQUATTING not just general lower body training. You should be doing your main squat 2x per week and utilizing systematic progressive overload, don't just add a random plate on when it starts feeling a little lighter.

Because my assumption is mechanics. It's possible I'm faltering somewhere in my lift. Nothing wrong with checking your ego and asking for help from people more experienced than you.

Sure, it's somewhat possible for technique to be limiting your strength to a degree but it's not what's causing you to bench as much as you squat. That's just a lack of effort put into training your squat.

Good luck finding a coach who's not going to over-complicate chit just to make himself seem more knowledgeable and useful. If anyone says your lift is stalled because of technique they are retarded, it's usually just about programming. Better technique can raise your ceiling, but you should still be making progress with whatever technique you currently use if you're following decent programming.
