At 52, I was accepted to Yale as a freshman. The students I met there surprised me.May of 2019, I was accepted to the Eli Whitney student program at Yale University. At 52, I am the oldest freshman in the class of 2023. Before I was accepted, I didn’t really know what to expect. I had seen the infamous YouTube video of students screaming at a faculty member. I had seen the news stories regarding the admissions scandal and that Yale was included in that unfortunate business. I had also heard the students at Yale referred to as “snowflakes” in various social media dumpsters and occasionally I’d seen references to Ivy League students as snowflakes in a few news sources.https://gen.medium.com/my-semester-w...s-888285f0e662To me there is no dishonor in being wrong and learning. There is dishonor in willful ignorance and there is dishonor in disrespect.

Was it bad when it was originally used to attack parents and teachers when they taught kids that it's ok to be you? And that no one is exactly like you? When those same people tried to lump them in with the "participation trophy" people? You know, the crap that the right has been pushing for over the last decade to make themselves seem like tough guys?

Do i support Trump's underlying message that America is the greatest country to ever exist? yes
irrelevant, the right-wing doesn't control mainstream culture in this country
at least it hasn't for 60yrs, it's starting to show some movement with social media, but that's where the censorship is coming in handy

Curious to hear Trumpers' thoughts on this. At 52, do you think you'd be willing to go back to school to fight the "indoctrination", yet end up admitting you were wrong?
Edit: And for the record, it's never too late. Ivy league schools don't age discriminate.Last edited by NYPat; 12-27-2019 at 06:40 PM.

You didn't ask but I have an A.S. in Engineeeing, a B.S. in Structural Engineering and am a registered Professional Engineer. Also a Trump Supporter. Are you here to make sweeping generalizations in a thread where we (trump supporters) are saying that sweeping generalizations are generally retarded?

Never heard of a "gin pole", but I looked it up. I've seen these before. It appears to be a simple machine block and tackle pulley system. You use mechanical advantage by using a system of ropes and pulleys to lift heavy loads. This is the principle behind any simple machine. It's all about multiplying force. The principle of virtual work indicates that the input force times the distance pulled must equal the output force times the distance lifted.
Yes. Would you be willing to answer an elementary engineering question?
Sure, would you be willing to answer an elementary statistics question?
Yes. I intend to prove you're all idiots.
I also can't help but notice none of you are well versed in science. You are mostly in applied fields. Interesting...It becomes easier to compartmentalize info and ignore the truth when you only apply things and don't care about what was required to derive them...

Define elementary. I'm not really in the mood for "gotchas" over technicalities. Generally, there are a large % of PEs my age that are functionally stupid. They're book smart, sure, but they have never been in the field and therefore cannot look beyond the small picture or the detail they're drawing up or the FEA (google it if you dont know it) they're running and they can't see the forest for the trees. But if you define "elementary" then yea, I'm game. It's still Christmas time and its Friday, I'm feeling generous.

IDK fine u can tell me something fresh in your head that only an engineer would know. I'm not an engineer so whatever I would ask you would probably be a "book" question. IDK maybe explain in lay terms how finite element analysis works. I don't expect you to know the mathematical details, but I am hoping to hear some intuitive idea of what "basis functions" are and what is operationally going on. I'd like to see how engineers view this actually.

Oh yeah? Does your boss feel the same way as you do? Lolol
Also I expected that someone as distinguished and as educated as you would know better than to assume that I can’t be educated and still have my own business. But then again, what do I know. I’m just a guy who employs people like you. You’re welcome.

It blows my mind how a grown man (40+) who has never had a sustainable job, lives with his father, and has never been laid. Can preach to others who actually have a grip on life about how wrong they are..
Why don’t you try becoming a man before you start talking about things you have NO clue about...
