    stamina getting worse

    hello,

i'm 15 years old and i started boxing when i was 14. it was hard in the beginning and i could only spar 3-4 rounds but after 5-6 months i could do more than 12. those were the golden days. my stamina was really good but then suddenly everything changed. i sparred 3 rounds maximum and i was about so tired that i was dizzy, then i left boxing to gain some muscle cause i'm skinny and went to the gym. i don't do too many workouts, i sleep well and eat well too but i can barely walk stairs without being out of breath and i always feel tired. what can be the cause to this change?

    thanks.

Unfortunately that is actually medically concerning and you should see a doctor. Going from being in decent shape to getting out of breath walking the stairs is not a good sign.

Agree w/ above, esp since you're 15 and talking about your golden days. I would suggest not working out until you see a doctor since there may be something serious going in.

Yeah it just sounds odd since a year ago you were sparring 12 rounds. Just get it checked out so you hopefully get an idea of what's causing the fatigue - since it could also be something simple and easily fixable. Good luck!

I just want to tell you to get the necessary blood work done! I inherited the Mediterranean Cooley's anemia trait ( not the disease), and my red blood cell count has always been around 9...just below the normal threshold range. But it does make a difference in energy levels, even if only slightly low.

I admit it never effected me to the degree you're describing. But when I was a young competitive gymnast, my stamina was effected. I would tire out faster, even though I was very strong and very fit. My concentration in school was effected, at times. Eating iron rich foods and following a very healthy diet didn't increase my hemoglobin count. Multivitamins didn't help either (including folic acid). It wasn't serious but it did still affect my overall energy levels.

Yes, you should know the results of your blood tests. Then have your doctor go from there...Best of luck, kid! Hopefully it's something similar to mine, and you've just had trouble with recovery. Find out.

Just to be clear besides blood work you may want to ask about an ECG to help evaluate for a heart condition.

Good idea. Can't hurt. And one more thing for Kencho: When everything turns out to be fine, and you're well-rested and revived, take up weight lifting and cardio!! That's how I built up alot of stamina (tolerance) and resilience. I was able to push through some physical obstacles with practice. Lots of luck again
