Any crucial difference between Lat Pulldowns and Pullups?

I have been doing Fierce 5 Novice for about 18 weeks now, and I tried doing pull-ups in replacement of the last set of pulldowns for the past two weeks. I feel like I can feel my lats being worked more on pull ups, but I don't want to give up lat pulldowns completely. Would doing 2x8 of lat pulldowns, followed by a set of pull ups be acceptable, or is there just a superior exercise from this pair?

    Thank you.

Open kinetic chain movements have some theoretical differences - but there isn't going to be a lot.

Pullups are more honest because you can lean back to cheat at pulldowns - so there is that.

Plenty of ppl cheat at pullups too, but agree - it's easier to cheat at pulldowns. Many ppl can move a lot of weight on pulldowns who can barely do any pullups w/ decent form.

Doing both in your workouts is fine. If I'd have to go w/ one as superior - I'd pick pullups / weighted pullups over pulldowns, but not a big deal either way.

I like the idea of doing both, but I'd do weighted pullups first, then regular pullups, then go down the weight stack on the pulldowns.

If you have the option to do either then I think you'll get better results from the pullups. Pulldowns tend to include more lean which changes the angle of the movement, or limit the weight used in order to preserve form. That said, a lot depends on the rest of your routine and what your goals are.
