You have an avi with your bod showing?

If yes, how many years you been lifting and what’s is one thing about lifting you’d like to tell a newbie? (Besides lift consistently with progressive overload and phucking eat!!)

26 years (Since I was 14). By no means in the same neighborhood as my best when I was in my twenties and lifted for like 8-9 years straight and had young guy t. After that I've consistently cruised between being in really good shape for 6-7 years then finding an excuse (Like an injury) to rot, eat like a madman and get really fat for a year or two, getting in great shape for another 5-6 years, then fat, then fit. I somehow always bounce back with enough hard work. Some advice to is don't try to look better than the next guy. Keep working to be better than you currently are. Don't let your ego make you try to hit poundage numbers. Use a weight you can control no matter how light it is. If you have to start with an empty bar do it. Study HOW to lift (Form), and don't overcomplicate it with a bunch of redundant or exotic lifts. Take your time during your sets and don't go bouncing around the movement. Don't find excuses to eat like chit or quit the gym for a while which as I mentioned above I've been guilty of. Don't go thinking you're going to look great in like a year. Understand it can take several.

Lifted for 1 month in my avi. Don't feel like changing it cuz i got used to the purple background.
No longer go to that gym, so i can't take an updated one in the same area.

Lift each muscle group 2x a week, learn good form, learn to flex the muscle you train at the end of each rep, flex between sets, keep rest between sets 1 min max. Have a good diet since it counts for 60% of your gains. Don't forget to stretch before you go home so you don't end up musclebound.

have fun with it and get excited about the gym. it's a slow and gradual process and honestly if you set goals in the gym and achieve them then that sort of winner mentality carries over to all other aspects of your life.

5 years (avi is a couple of years old though). I'm 40 and started lifting comparatively late, so my advice would be start younger than I did...

6 months consecutively lifting. Honestly best advice I'd give anyone new right now is to just set up their mentality before actually trying anything physical. Let them figure out what their general goal and motivation is in order to fuel their actions towards striving to said goal(s).

Action will turn to habit and habit will turn to routine so it doesn't matter if you're not energized, or you feel like absolute chit, or the weather is bad; always be consistent with your actions so your mentality is that of it turning into routine. That's the best way to stay consistent with it.
If you need help, don't hesitate to reach out. Let's have a chat.

    Stats;

    Height: 5'10
    Weight: 75kg [165lb)

    Bench: 100kgx3
    Squat: 110kgx4
    Deadlift: 140kgx1, 110kgx4

    I started in 1996.

To a noob I would say:

    1) Never compare yourself to others, only compete with yourself.
    2) Don't get obsessed with weight (body weight or lifted weight) because it does not always tell the entire story: get obsessed with the mirror instead.
    3) After a workout you must feel tired, sore and hungry. If you don't, you did not push yourself to the limit.

Started lifting at 17. Was pretty consistent all through my 20's until I got pregnant with my son at 32. Then it was off and on until late 30's/early 40's and been very consistent since. Don't plan to ever give it up. I hope I'm that granny in the nursing home lifting 2 lb pink dumbbells.

I started lifting 40 years ago at 27.

I didn't know a thing about it except to lift as heavy as possible, every session..

    WRONG!

Let the mirror be your guide to your gains...not the scale.

Don't be closed minded about taking advice...you don't know everything, even though you might think you do.
I learned tons from older lifters when I was young.

Be consistent in training and DIET! This is where most fail.

if you seriously want to make real gains..stop partying on weekends.

Feel the muscle/group you are training working.

LEAVE YOUR EGO IN THE CAR.
She approached with her hand extended,. I slowly stepped back. "No" she said. "I just want to shake your hand. You're amazingly gorgeous." As she walked by me she copped a biceps feel.

been at it for 11 years pretty steadily

consistency is key, don't stress counting macros -- just eat when you're hungry
find a good routine for the sake of maintaining consistency and always look to improve on your lifts whether it be more reps / more weight

Lifting for 16 years. Though when I was 16-22 I'd argue I didn't know sh*t. I'd say the the thing that got me an impressive physique was learning how to properly track macros and adjust them well. It takes some trial and error figuring it out. Started tracking properly around 26 years old so I'd say the last 6 years has been when I sort of figured it all out.

Yes aware I'm literally posting the opposite of the dude above who got an eating disorder counting calories. Let me ask you though, if you're building a house and your see your carpenter hammering away without a ruler measuring it all to be precise do you think that house is going to be as structurally sound as the carpenter who measures? I don't care how good that carpenter is at eyeballing it.

So those intuitive eaters out there pretending they're getting the same results from tracking are full of cope. It comes down to how serious you want to be with it. As long as you know you're probably not going to get the same results as if you were willing to put in more work then I got no problem if intuitive eating is more you're thing.

And if you develop an eating disorder it's really not from tracking the calories, it's because you have other issues. The tracking of the calories may have been the trigger but your mindset is fragile is the real problem. You're likely susceptible to a number of other disorders too.

If schedule and motivation allow hit every muscle 2x a week but with different exercises.
Its 10x easier to prevent injuries through prehab movements than to fix a catastrophic injury.
Consistency is the most important word in bodybuilding. Its the difference between a guy that tries a lift every two weeks and snaps his chit up and a guy that has been going up in 2.5 or 5 lb increments or more reps and has a solid physique.
Lifting has gotten me more friends and laid more than anything else ive done in my life (srs)

The guy talking about get excited about going to the gym
Is right. You must stoke the fire and have passion for it. People that are just going through the motions dont last. Im messing this quote up but “Obsession is a word lazy people use to describe the dedicated who do what they cant do” is true. There are so many positive reinforcements happening when im in the gym
    - i focus on my breathing almost to the point of meditative trance
    - i channel any negative emotions into the weights
    - i daydream about being Thor, Superman, helping people, a girl i like, life goals, etc
    - i always am being asked to be gym partners but usually my partner isnt dedicated so i show up early or stay late but the social interaction is good

What ayyy said about dont visit snap city i cant stress enough.

Lateral raises, rear flies and shrugs build massive shoulders and traps.

You don't need to go too heavy to make gains.

Squat is the king of all exercises.

Dead lifts are for posers and twinks.

i'll never argue eating perfectly isn't better, but there's the problem. No one on the planet knows how to eat perfectly. Learning to listen to what you crave and eating accordingly is just as important as anything.

If you're so dead set that you can only eat 50g fat or that your carbs can't be over 200g or whatever arbitrary numbers you come up with you're not doing yourself any favors imo. Every elite level guy I've known eats and trains instinctively, that comes from years of trial and error. I'm sure as fck not remotely towards an elite level but I know that for my mindset that eating intuitively has done way more good than bad for me as a whole.

On the eating disorder part I am positive had I never tracked calories and macros it never would've reached the point it did, all I thought about was how many numbers were in the food I ate. I'm just one of the few that's open about the issues i've had, it's not near as uncommon as you may think for guys to develop food issues after joining the gym. I won't argue it's an issue with weak will, but I'm far from alone on that issue and I attribute it entirely to my inability to separate the food I put in my body to the numbers I was adding up on a piece of paper

    My super awesome advice is:

    1. Stay consistent
    2. The best program is the one you ENJOY
    3. Do not ego lift. Unless you plan to compete in a strength sport, how much you bench is irrelevant.
    4. Progressive overload
    5. NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS SRS PLS DON'T FALL INTO THIS TRAP

Das it. It's actually really, really really simple at the end of the day. It's only complicated if you plan to specialize in a strength sport or actual, get in a thong on stage bodybuilding.

Edit: My avi and post will soon be irrelevant.

Learn how to train on your own so you don't have to rely on others who will inevitably let you down at various times.

Also, most guys go to the gym to look good and feel better in themselves: don't get stuck in the mindset of constantly gaining weight and having levels of bodyfat that you aren't happy with. If you train consistently and put in a lot of effort but are too self-conscious with your bodyfat, then you've got to reasses the reasons why you're lifting in the first place...

Too long. My only advice, and the only advice that really matters is that diet is king and high protein is necessary.
