Yea Bernie has gone soft on immigration. But keep in mind Sanders isn’t worried about the diminishing white mans power in American politics like republicans are. He’s the son of immigrants who came to America poor and made a life for themselves through hard work.

I would say Bernie Sanders is probably one of the most deserving politicians to be called a patriot even if you don’t agree with him politically because he is a principled person.

Free trade is a bad thing when companies across the country over several decades close up shop and reopen in third world countries to cut cost. That results in what’s happening now, people crying for manufacturing jobs to return. Millions of jobs have been displaced by free trade agreements like NAFTA.

The vast majority of republicans would crucify you at this point in time for not supporting Trump and his protectionism.

I would disagree that it's "capitalism" as capitalism is about freedom and that freedom goes both ways. In the case of trading with countries like China and Mexico we have special interests who are pretty much bribing politicians to enact policies, trade agreements in this case, to benefit themselves at the cost of everyone else.

In a truly free market no such thing would take place. Undoubtedly someone will argue that it is capitalism, it is freedom, the consumers are buying what they want to buy, etc. That's a poor argument and it simply isn't true. Why? Because the cronyism is removing all reasonable competition from the market and is virtually removing the freedom of the consumer as a result. That isn't capitalism and that isn't freedom.

I have no doubt, not one single doubt, that consumers would make different choices if they understood what was going on.

A fun question/analogy I use is Adam Smith:

How would Adam Smith have felt if one of the merchants at his market was giving someone in power money to import all of their wares resulting in everyone else at the market being put out of business?

He would have vehemently disagreed with it and called it out as the injustice that it is. There should be free and fair competition in the marketplace. Keywords are free and fair. You can't reasonably have one without the other.

Sure, whoever is in charge of his brand merchandising probably sent out bids to companies for various promotional products. Promotional products are more often than not sourced overseas due to the cost advantage of mass production and then shipped via container ship back to the US (or via air for a higher premium). So if one of the companies that won a contract were located overseas, they produced the product. Once the product gets here, it's stored in a warehouse for distribution. So technically, depending on the quantity ordered and when, merchandise with the Trump branding could still appear as "Made in China" if they haven't run out of stock yet.

Although I'm sure in the big picture, this doesn't appear on any radars because its impact is insignificant. Depending on the size of an organization, its rare that someone as high up as Trump would have direct oversight of brand merchandising other than the logo itself or any notable products associated with the branding.

There will always be substantial costs to American made products. You can't compare people making $60K with full benefits to someone making $2/hr in China. However, you just need to charge more.
