Nine American Missionaries Gunned Down And Burned To Death By Cartels

At least six children and three women living in a community of U.S. citizens in Mexico were shot to death Monday, six more children were wounded and one missing after their convoy came under fire during a brazen daylight ambush believed to have been carried out by gunmen affiliated with organized crime in the country.

Alfonso Durazo, Mexico's top security official, confirmed the 6 deaths, adding that 6 more children were wounded in the attack, with 5 transferred to hospitals in Phoenix, Arizona. One child is still missing.

Those attacked were members of the LeBaron family, a well-known American clan who has lived in the community in the northern part of the country for decades, according to The New York Times. Kenny LeBaron, a cousin to several of the victims, told the Times he feared the death toll could increase.

“When you know there are babies tied in a car seat that are burning because of some twisted evil that’s in this world,” LeBaron said, “it’s just hard to cope with that.”

More than a dozen other members of La Mora – a decades-old settlement in Sonora state founded as part of an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – were missing after the attack on the convoy of three SUVs, a relative told The Associated Press.

If the US military is going to fight in wars in countries across the world the US military should be used against these narco terrorist. If Mexico does not allow US troops to help in this effort then we need to close the border and suspend commerce until they do

We could solve all of this cartel crap if we wanted to. I don't think we want to.

We know where these cartels hide out and could monitor their leaders moving around. In 15 minutes we could have a phone call with Mexico for permission and in another 15 minutes JDAM delivers 100 cartel members to hell. Why aren't we doing it?

We don't want to solve immigration, we only want to campaign on it. We don't want to solve the drug problem, the War on Drugs is big business for too many people.

Three weeks ago DEA found son of el chapo and tipped the mexican government on where to find him. Then mexican police arrested him and then was released hours later because President Andres Manuel told them to let him go.

Doesn't get more corrupt than that.

Tell Mexico? No way. Just blast them from the skies and if Mexico complains just keep blasting

Screw those mfs They’ve allowed these cartels to survive for decades and do nothing about the 33000 murders every year. Wipe the place clean, it’s like a large leper colony which needs eradicated. And then we can seal our border

Amazing that there is not even a mention of this anywhere from CNN or MSNBC but if someone says the phrase "Illegal Immigrant" out loud in a public place it's a top story. Disgusting.

It's an easy problem to solve. Legalize drugs and completely remove their cash flow. Then go in and wreck them.

    Here are the problems:

    - US doesn't want to stop the stupid phucking "wAr oN dRUgs" because of all the money that goes into it
    - Mexico doesn't want to stop the stupid phucking "wAr oN dRUgs" because all the money they make off of it

They don't want to stop the war because private prisons make money too. Also, drugs aren't the only revenue stream anymore. Human/Sex trafficking is huge too.

I don't think it would work this easily. Drugs are just one of many ways cartels earn. They're full blown criminal organizations with their fingers in everything from which they can make an easy buck

Even if the war on drugs ended entirely and companies started manufacturing illicit drugs for legal sale in the US, the cartels would just compete with them by offering lower prices.

    The problem is Mexico

I agree with this. I also think that if guns are ever banned in the US, the cartels would immediately fill that void. A black market for firearms would net them billions and they already have the transportation network in place.

^^^its true. These people were in a cult, not regular LDS folks, who trafficked young girls for polygamous marriages. srs. This cult also has murdered people. The entire reason they are in Mexico is so they can live their cult lifestyle that is illegal here in the US.

Might be a lot more to this story...

    https://nypost.com/2019/11/05/women-...ex-cult-nxivm/

Women killed in Mexican cartel murders had alleged ties to sex cult Nxivm

The nine women and children slaughtered in Mexico on Monday were part of a Mormon community with ties to the alleged sex-cult Nxivm.

The outpost Mormon community in Mexico is where underlings of Nxivm leader Keith Raniere recruited young women to work as nannies in an upstate New York compound run by the accused cult — suggesting at least in part that the jobs would get the girls away from their home region’s drug violence, according a man hired by Raniere to produce a documentary about the group.

The three moms and six kids killed in Monday’s violence in the northern town of Sonora are believed to have been the victims of a drug cartel, which may have mistaken the group’s caravan of three SUVs for rivals, Mexican authorities said Tuesday.

The filmmaker working with Raniere at the time, Mark Vicente, told the online magazine Slate that the documentary ultimately became a recruiting video for Nxivm, which purported to be a self-help group but morphed into what the feds called a cult that sexually, physically and emotionally abused its mainly female followers.

The film included an interview with Julian LeBaron, who identified himself as the cousin of one of the moms killed Monday and who is a leader of the Mexico Mormon community. LeBaron’s brother was kidnapped by a local drug cartel in 2009, and the family defiantly refused to pay a ransom. The cartel eventually released the abducted man.

Well, to be fair the cartel showed up armed to the teeth and started making a hell of a mess.
the president gave the order, true but I'm guessing it was because the mexican army couldn't kill them fast enough and the collateral damage was getting up there.

The details are sparse so I don't know if the army was unprepared and out manned and out gunned or they just suck.

It has nothing to do with that and everything to do with the ongoing feud between the Mormons and cartels in the area.

plenty more here if the below isn't enough for ya - https://www.google.com/search?q=mexi...els+vs+mormons

or for statement from the family and a quick example of another past attack on the Mormons, read this article

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/mexica...s-and-children

But family of the victims, including a legislator who is a high-profile peace activist in Mexico, have disputed such official accounts. “This was no crossfire,” said Alex LeBaron, an elected deputy to the Chihuahua state legislature, during an interview on Mexico’s W Radio. Referring to the accounts of the incident provided by the children who survived, LeBaron called it an “ambush.”

“It couldn’t have been a mistake,” he said. “This is terrorism, plain and simple.”

    .....

The group’s trials were the stuff of local lore long before drug cartels entered the frame. Over the past decade, however, leading members of the LeBaron community have distinguished themselves as outspoken opponents to the growth of cartel-related kidnappings, extortion and killings in Mexico.

In 2009, the LeBaron community made worldwide news with a harrowing stand against a cartel in Chihuahua, not far from the U.S. border. A 16-year-old member of the community named Erick LeBaron was kidnapped and held for a $1 million ransom by a local drug cartel. The community assembled and decided not to pay the ransom but to wage a public campaign to pressure the government to take action and secure Erick’s release. Miraculously, the teen was returned without a cent changing hands.

If, by standing up to narcos, the LeBarons had briefly inspired Mexico with hope, their refusal to submit also appeared to infuriate a local cartel leader. Jose “El Rikin” Escajeda, who lived scarcely eight miles away from the prosperous settlement of apple, pecan, and chili farms known as Colonia LeBaron, ordered a team of armed assailants to take revenge.

Two months after the dramatic kidnap standoff, Benjamin LeBaron, who was Erick’s older brother and a leader of the protest campaign that helped secure his release, was abducted from his home in Colonia LeBaron along with his brother-in-law Luis Carlos Widmar, who had come to help.

Both men were shot and their bodies found at the side of the road a short distance from the community with a message attached linking the killings to the family’s public calls for increased policing in the area. (Escajeda, the alleged ringleader of a drug-trafficking family that runs a 120-mile smuggling corridor along Mexico’s border with Texas, was soon arrested for the murders.)

The extended community of exiled Mormons in Mexico dates back to 1886, when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began cracking down on the practice of plural marriage, or polygamy. Alma Dayer LeBaron moved to Mexico with his two wives and children after he was excommunicated by the LDS church in 1924.

OK. good to know about that law/rule.
