Red face Ramifications for deadlifting only for leg strength

What are the ramifications for deadlifting only for leg strength?

    What are they?

I've always found the relationship between deadlifts and leg development interesting. Most often, I do them stiff legged, and even though the SLDL is much more back-intensive and the legs hardly move, they still get a lot of work done, as my posterior chain often has a lot of DOMS afterwards and has developed fairly well in response to that lift, even though my squat is quite weak and infrequently done.

Oftentimes I see people essentially squat the bar up with a nearly vertical back. That strikes me as too negligent of the back (which is what the deadlift is supposed to target primarily), and maybe redundant if they're already squatting heavy.

That's exactly the case for me, but I usually do SLDL. Not even sure how that happens. Isometric tension?

You could do trap bar deadlifts for more quad activation and better overall balance. My issue with trap bar DL is that straps don't work so great, so going super heavy is tougher for me. Or you can just do different variants of regular DL. SLDL, RDL, Deficit DL and be ok.

Because he wants to argue and he is too mentally weak to squat.

Your legs may get stronger but will mostly be stronger with that type of movement.
I don't believe it will carry over much to squats or other leg movements it's to specific.
If thats all you can do and don't have a rack to squat with adjusting technique ,maybe standing on a small block will make the legs work hard at the start.
As mentioned a trap bar could put the leverage in a more ideal position for legs.
    Good luck.
